With that in mind, we’re starting a series that will highlight some of the most promising Washington players according to their positions and regions. It’s time we highlight some of the most interesting liberos from the Southern region of the state.
Liz Hurn – HS: Woodland – 2022
Liz Hurn has been a stud for her high school team Woodland in each of the last three seasons of high school volleyball. The 5’3” defender quickly became a key piece in the Beavers’ playing system with her technical and reliable game. A tremendous defender, Hurn is also a very capable passer and is the kind of player that makes her teammates better with her game. She’s coming from a very solid high school season in which she registered 194 digs and 203 passes.
Pervie Reed – HS: Three Rivers Christian – Club: Cowlitz Aces Volleyball Club- 2022
Pervie Reed is another defender from the southern region of the state who has been having a prominent role with her high school team for a while. The 5’2” libero is instrumental in Three Rivers Christian’s success, providing the Eagles with some much-needed defensive stability in the backcourt. A multiple time All-State and All-League team nominee, Reed came up big in the last shortened high school season, racking up 178 digs and 193 passes, besides 21 aces.
Paige Stepaniuk Paige Stepaniuk 5'7" | DS/L Ridgefield | 2023 State WA – HS: Ridgefield – Club: Excel NW – 2023
Paige Stepaniuk Paige Stepaniuk 5'7" | DS/L Ridgefield | 2023 State WA has quickly followed on the footsteps of her older sister Emilea to become one of the most solid defensive players in the entire state for her high school team Ridgefield. The 5’7” libero is extremely fast and has an impressive ability to control hard-driven hits. She’s also a very solid passer and has a floating serve that’s capable of causing damage to most service receiving systems out there. Stepaniuk is electric and a hard-worker, who never gives up when it comes to chasing balls.
