2021 might be the year of the senior outside hitter in the Cornhusker State.

Sure, there’s basically an endless list of pin hitters in Nebraska’s history that have saved their best stuff for their last season. Even so, the Class of 2022 is already showing another level of dominance early in the high school season. These are athletes who can carry huge responsibilities on offense and carry their respective teams to a state title this November. Nebraska has a vast collection of experienced hitters who can withstand the pressure of performing in their final year of high school competition.

Let’s take a quick look at how some of Nebraska’s senior outside hitters have fared so far this fall.

Incredible Single-Match Performances

We’re going to start by checking out a few of the jaw-dropping single-match stat lines that we’ve already seen from this group.

How about we revisit what just happened last night? Wahoo’s [player_tooltip player_id="37530" first="Mya" last="Larson"] dropped a whopping 38 kills as the Warriors prevailed in a five-set slugfest over Platteview. The Montana State commit has been hitting at a gaudy efficiency this year, which is especially impressive given her volume of swings on the left side. Time after time, she’s putting the ball away.

[player_tooltip player_id="37577" first="Ashley" last="Keck"] is another player that has been putting up some big performances in key matches. She posted 25 kills in a four-set win over Scotus and followed that up with a 21-kill match in a sweep against Hershey. These lofty numbers could help propel Kearney Catholic to a special season.

There are many other performances that are worthy of mention here. [player_tooltip player_id="37535" first="Kali" last="Jurgensmeier"] had a massive 31-kill outing to open the season against Mead, and [player_tooltip player_id="58793" first="Jadyn" last="Hahn"] accumulated a massive nine kills per set in a win over Elmwood-Murdock. Clearly, these are players who don’t mind carrying a heavy burden on offense.

Small-Town Talents to Follow

Let’s revisit a few small-town performers who have been dominating on the high school stage for a while now.

[player_tooltip player_id="58787" first="Cordelia" last="Harbison"] is having another strong season for Lexington. That’s nothing new. She has consistently been putting down over five kills per set since the start of last season, and that should continue through the end of her career.

Another name on the small-town scene to keep an eye on is Jadyn Meiergerd. The West Point-Beemer product has put down nearly six kills per set this year and is a rising multi-sport star for the Cadets.

Plenty more names that fit in this category will certainly be featured in the weeks to come. [player_tooltip player_id="58792" first="Brianna" last="Lemke"] is having another fabulous year for Mead, and Kya Scott is a name to know from Broken Bow. All of these players will look to put their teams on the map as we approach another year of dramatic postseason volleyball in Lincoln.
