This week we will give special recognition to Miss Maggie Boyd Maggie Boyd 5'10" | OH Marcus | 2022 State TX from Flower Mound Marcus High School and 692 Beach volleyball club. We asked for nominations from our readers a few weeks ago for players that deserve special recognition for their leadership on and off the court. We have gotten tons of readers reaching out nominating some amazing athletes for amazing reasons. We have picked some players to write about and Emily is our second article dedicated to leadership. We are proud to introduce our readers to Miss Boyd:
Maggie Boyd Maggie Boyd 5'10" | OH Marcus | 2022 State TX [2022] 5-10 Outside (HS: Flower Mound Marcus/Club: 692 Beach/Verbal: UCLA {beach})
We profiled her a few times already this year and here is a little from our latest article when we added her to the State Rankings, “We have her listed as the 74th best overall prospect in the state. Miss Boyd is a fantastic dual sport athlete from the Flower Mound area who plays at Marcus High School and also for the 692 Beach Volleyball club. She is committed to playing at the next level in the sand with UCLA. It takes a special player to be able to not only play but excel at both indoor and beach volleyball as they seem similar but require vastly different skill-sets. In order to be competitive in the sand a player needs to be not only well rounded in every aspect, but powerful in each skill-set. This young lady is a phenomenal scorer for Marcus regularly tallying double digit kills. We are happy to have her in the Prep Dig family now and will be watching her senior season closely and reporting on her play. Please help us congratulate her on her State Ranking.”
Even though we could go on and on about her physical play on the court, this article is dedicated to another aspect that has gotten noticed during her play at Marcus High School. We received a fantastic nomination for this wonderful young lady that were about her leadership and dedication to her high school program, so we chose her for a special article to speak about it. When others speak about you without you knowing about it, it truly means a lot.
In twenty-two years of coaching the sport, I have seen it all. But what still warms my heart is when players go above and beyond for others. One of Maggie’s teammates reached out to me and stated some really amazing things about her that made me smile. She leads by example is the first statement that was given to me. Everyone knows that great leaders are not just people that talk…but people that do. Her teammate went on to tell me that she doesn’t ask anyone to do anything that she doesn’t do herself. It made me think of that Chicago Bulls documentary that debuted last year when Michael Jordan said that about himself. The great ones do things like that and Maggie definitely embodies that. Maggie’s teammate also went on to mention how Maggie encourages everyone and treats everyone fairly. Miss Boyd is a player that should be commended for her on and off court leadership.
I love when young people speak highly about their peers. Those readers who are teachers, coaches, or any other profession that deals with kids knows what I’m talking about when I say how amazing they can be. This was apparent when I read all of the submissions from the peers of the players that got nominated. The fact that they took the time out of their busy days should make all of our readers smile like it does me. Reading all of the submissions and writing these articles keep me happy knowing that there are great kids out there. I hope that all of our readers keep reaching out and telling us amazing stories of great leaders on their teams.
We will be publishing more articles weekly to give recognition to those athletes who are playing great and deserve a highlight. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes.
