Continue ReadingThe 2021 High School season has been amazing so far! Along with our readers, we have been on pins and needles watching teams battle all season long. There have been some amazing tournaments and great district battles. We have been talking to coaches, reading tons of stats, and getting lots of video submissions from parents and players regarding how everyone has fared over the course of the season. As we are funneling into the end of district play and about to head into the playoffs, we will be discussing some players who are being nominated for our inaugural Prep Dig Texas All-State Awards. Our end-of-season awards are going to be different because we are going to consider all divisions/conferences/classes together and pick the best of the best. The outside hitters we will be discussing have been tearing it up and proving themselves all season long with some amazing statistics. Let’s meet some of the nominees:
Maggie Boyd Maggie Boyd 5'10" | OH Marcus | 2022 State TX [2022] 5-10 Outside (HS: Flower Mound Marcus/Club: 692 Beach/Verbal: UCLA {beach})
Maggie is currently listed as the 74th overall prospect in the 2022 class. We profiled her a few times already this year and here is a little from our latest article when we added her to the State Rankings, “Miss Boyd is a fantastic dual sport athlete from the Flower Mound area who plays at Marcus High School and also for the 692 Beach Volleyball club. She is committed to playing at the next level in the sand with UCLA. It takes a special player to be able to not only play but excel at both indoor and beach volleyball as they seem similar but require vastly different skill-sets. In order to be competitive in the sand a player needs to be not only well rounded in every aspect, but powerful in each skill-set. This young lady is a phenomenal scorer for Marcus regularly tallying double digit kills. We are happy to have her in the Prep Dig family now and will be watching her senior season closely and reporting on her play. Please help us congratulate her on her State Ranking.” We have been watching very closely and she has dominated on the court this year. So far she has the 7th most kills in the entire state amongst all senior outside hitters. Her 550 kills on a .325 hitting percentage would be great in any year on any team. What makes it even more special is how she has helped her team become one of the best in the state this season. She has helped them to a 30-7 overall record and a 12-2 district record. Please help us congratulate her on being a candidate for an All-State award.
Brynn Williams Brynn Williams 5'10" | OH Mansfield | 2022 State #95 Nation TX (2022) 5-11 Outside (HS: Mansfield/Club: Drive Nation/Verbal: Texas Tech)
Brynn is currently the 29th best overall prospect in the state. We showcased her high school earlier this fall and we added her to the State Rankings in December for the first time. In those articles we wrote the following about her, “Miss Williams can flat out fly on the left pin. She is gifted with natural athleticism that allows her to easily adjust to any set and still hit for power. Her long legs and arms allow her to sky over would-be blockers with ease. She hits at the peak of her jump to get maximum height on contact. I know the coaches at Tech and having sent players to their program myself, I know they are going to love Brynn’s playing ability. She is the type of player that should make an immediate impact on their program. When Mansfield is in trouble out of system, Brynn is their “go-to” on the left pin and she almost always delivers. That is a very good weapon to have on an already explosive team. We will be watching Brynn very closely for the next few years. We are very happy to have her on such a prestigious list now and she has every tool to continue to move up the rankings. She along with a few of her Mansfield teammates will be back and ready to make a deep run in the playoffs next year as they still have tons of firepower. Grab your popcorn and get ready to watch her fly during the club season. She has done nothing but gotten better and helped her Drive Nation club team qualify for USA Junior Nationals and become one of the best teams in the nation. She was absolutely instrumental in her Mansfield HS team going on a deep run this past season. Mansfield went 21-3 overall and also had an undefeated 14-0 district record. Miss Williams was a huge reason for that as a junior and will look to help do even more damage next season. In only three seasons she has tallied 678 kills, 145 blocks, 11 aces, and 300 digs. Get ready to watch some fireworks next year as Mansfield will be on a mission!” This season has been no different as Brynn is still her dominant self. She has tallied the 8th most kills amongst all seniors in the state. Miss Williams has 545 on a .276 hitting percentage. She also has 489 digs, 58 blocks and 42 aces on the year. We are proud to announce that she is a candidate for our All-State award due to her amazing play on the court. Please congratulate her on the honor.
D’nari Mills [2022] 5-8 Outside (HS: Cy Woods/Club: Texas Legacy/Verbal: Southeastern Oklahoma State)
Miss Mills is currently an unranked prospect in the state of Texas according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but that will change once we update them soon. She is a pin hitter who plays at Cypress Woods high school and also club for a small program called Texas Legacy out of the Lone Star Region. She has been stellar and almost unstoppable offensively as she has the 6th most kills out of all seniors in the entire state. She has tallied 561 kills on a .241 hitting percentage throughout the year. She also has 402 digs and 63 aces. While there are taller, faster, and highly touted players ahead of her in the rankings, D’nari has proven that she belongs in the discussion due to her amazing offensive skill-set she has shown this season. This kid has some awesome power in both her lower body and her upper body. She is super explosive off of the ground and it is a sight to see. The average spectator will be in awe of her offense but true volleyball aficionados will fall in love with her ball control and defense. This young lady plays with a high motor that Southeastern Oklahoma State will fall in love with. Please congratulate her on achieving the nomination for All-State consideration.
