As we get into our rankings countdown let’s go over the groundwork. Rankings are never perfect and are subjective by nature. These rankings are heavily weighed based on CIF and state playoff results. Except in a rare instance, a team will not be ranked ahead of a team it lost to in CIF or state. There may be an example of a team losing to the same opponent in CIF then beating that team in state and in that instance the state victory usually takes precedent. We tried hard to follow the results chain as closely as possible but in a sport like volleyball with tournament play during the regular season, those results can create more questions than answers.

36. Cardinal Newman (28-5, North Coast section)
Season Highlight(s): CIF North Coast Section Division 4 champion (defeated Marin Academy); CIF State Division 1 Round 1 (lost to Christian Brothers); North Bay League-Oak champion
Key Graduates: OH [player_tooltip player_id="162797" first="Kimi" last="Waller"]
Key Returners (grade this fall): S Julia Waller (Fr); RS Ali Farquhar (Jr); L/DS Claire Egan (Fr)
2022 Outlook: Waller was the go-to hitter so the Cardinals need to fill that spot. But the younger Waller is back to direct the offense so that’ll help.

37. Sacred Heart Prep (23-6, Central Coast)
Season Highlight(s): CIF State Division 1 Round 1 (lost to Monte Vista)
Key Graduates: S/RS [player_tooltip player_id="162743" first="Millie" last="Muir"]
Key Returners: OH [player_tooltip player_id="161008" first="Mia" last="Radeff"] (Soph); L/DS Elina Wheeler (Soph); S/RS [player_tooltip player_id="160999" first="Isabelle" last="Marco"] (Soph); OH Tatum Baker (Jr)
2022 Outlook: The loss of Muir, a Duke commit, is going to sting as she set and hit for the Gators. Yet, SHP relied on underclassmen behind her and that will help ease the loss. Marco, who also set and hit, was the team’s kill leader while Radeff was only a few kills behind Muir and finished third. Plus, Wheeler is back to hold down the defense, so the Gators are poised for another state appearance.

38. Salinas (28-5, Central Coast)
Season Highlight(s): Pacific Coast-Gabilan League champion; CIF State Division 1 Round 2 (lost to Amador Valley)
Key Graduates: MB Alanah Gordon; S Sofia Berg; L/DS Brooke Cannon
Key Returners: OH [player_tooltip player_id="160969" first="Sabrina" last="Moore"] (Soph); OH/RS Brooke Hibino (Jr); OH Olivia Silacci-Jensen (Jr); MB Yenna Paris (Jr); S [player_tooltip player_id="160895" first="Elizabeth" last="Pozas"] (Jr); MB Quinn Atteridge
2022 Outlook: The Cowboys are looking good for next fall as they bring back a majority of the starting lineup. It includes the thrust of their offense -- Moore and Hibino led the team in kills and Atteridge has the highest hitter percentage of returning players -- so a deeper run in state is a real possibility.

39. Clovis North (29-10, Central)
Season Highlight(s): CIF Central Section Division 1 runner up (lost to Clovis West); CIF State Division 1 Round 1 (lost to Salinas)
Key Graduates: S Evania Sanchez; L/DS Sheyanne Hike; MB [player_tooltip player_id="159502" first="Renee" last="Phillips"]
Key Returners: OH [player_tooltip player_id="160318" first="Peyton" last="Bitter"] (Jr); OH Ava Rogers (Fr); MB/RS Morgan Wilson (Jr); MB Kennedy Lingenfelter (Fr); S Kyra Miller (Jr)
2022 Outlook: To keep up defensively the Broncos will need to fill the voids left by Hike, who led the roster in digs, and Phillips, the team’s block leader. Offensively, Clovis North should be able to maintain if not be better as some younger players like Rogers and Lingenfelter should see expanded roles.

40. Central Valley Christian (27-4, Central)
Season Highlight(s): Central Sequoia League champion; CIF State Division 1 Round 1 (lost to San Clemente); CIF Central Section Division 1 Semifinalist (lost to Clovis North)
Key Graduates: OH Grace Van Der Kooi; OH Kara Verhoeven; L/DS Darby Kroes; S [player_tooltip player_id="159998" first="Maya" last="Van Groningen"]
Key Returners: OH/RS [player_tooltip player_id="160984" first="Lilinoe" last="Spencer"] (Soph)
2022 Outlook: The Cavaliers say goodbye to a good chunk of their starting lineup. Look for Spencer to take on a leading role as CVC looks to rework the lineup around her.
