Megan Hodges has been on my radar since I started with PrepDig. She was a different player then: developing, adjusting to her height and learning the game. Now she is ready to compete at the highest level of college volleyball.

Her MaxPreps page only shows her freshman season, and it's still worth reading. She recorded 220 kills and 48 total blocks in 67 sets as a ninth grader at San Juan Hills. That is a real workload for a freshman at the net.

Since then, her résumé has done the talking. She was invited to the NTDP in Colorado Springs as an opposite. This fall, she was nominated for the AVCA Girls High School Player of the Year Watch List out of Region 9. A 6-foot-6 right side changes the math for opposing outsides. They have to find a new shot before the ball is ever set.

Nebraska is getting a right side who has been trending upward for three years, and the stat sheet hasn't caught up to her yet.

I called Summer Tukua a freshman sensation after watching her in a CIF-SS Division 2 championship match in 2024. Two years later, she is carrying one of the heaviest offensive loads in the state.

She has 505 kills through 99 sets this season. That's 5.1 kills per set on 1,122 attempts, while hitting .286. Volume usually costs efficiency. Her hitting percentage has actually ticked up from her sophomore season while her swings have gone up.

The numbers don't stop at the net. She has 403 career digs and 86 aces at Murrieta Valley. What matters more is how she competes. She is fierce on the floor, and her beach background shows up in how she reads the court and how relentlessly she pursues every ball.

Auburn is getting a six-rotation outside who wants the ball. Period.

Piper Coady makes a statement when she is on the court and it goes without saying that she has passion for this game. She has earned repeated invitations to the NTDP, from Florida to Colorado Springs. After the summer training series heading into her sophomore season, Piper said it gave her a variety of serves she could choose from depending on the situation. Her sharp-angle attack is already a shot opposing defenses have to plan for.

This season, her growth has been in her volleyball IQ.

“I think the part of my game that has grown the most since last high school season has been my confidence and consistency. The biggest change for me has been becoming more intentional with every rep and using each one as an opportunity to learn and improve.”

That habit is what separates good outsides from trusted ones. Intentional reps build the kind of consistency coaches can count on in the fifth set. Piper sees that as her job at Newport Harbor this fall.

“I think my role at Newport Harbor this fall is being someone my team can depend on in hard moments and tight situations, rather than shying away from the challenge. I'm most proud of how my team has continued to build each other up this season and work through the hard battles together.”

She plays with the mindset of a player who wants the ball when the score is tight, and she gives the credit to her teammates. Those are two traits that travel.

“Indiana felt like the right fit for me because of the strong culture and community. The coaches and everyone surrounding the program are people who I know will support me and push me to be the best version of myself, both on and off the court. It felt like home from the first time I visited, and I knew it was somewhere I could see myself growing as a player and person.”

Indiana is getting an outside who has been tested at the national level, embraces pressure, and is still getting better.

Kaleia “KJ” Zeits is one of the few players on this list whose MaxPreps numbers tell the whole story, and they tell it loudly. She has been on Glendora's varsity floor since her freshman year. In three seasons, she has 1,215 digs, an average of 6.3 per set, along with 877 serve receptions and 123 aces.

She knows exactly where that production comes from.

“I'm most proud of how consistent my serve receive has been and how much my range has expanded to cover more court.”

Range is the difference between a good libero and a great one. More court covered means more swings for her hitters, and that is how she leads.

“My team has been so fun this year to grow with. I always try to lead by example by being the hardest worker on the court and never letting a ball drop so I give my hitters another chance to score.”

She plays with the communication of a libero who sees the whole floor, and her teammates rely on it. The work behind it starts before practice does.

“I would love coaches to know that my players depend on me to help them with reading what's happening on the other side of the court and to be kind on and off the court. I also took a 0 period so I finish school at lunch every day so I can get in my lessons and my strength/agility workouts.”

KJ is uncommitted. For programs still searching for a 2028 libero, KJ has a proven backcourt résumé and she is intentional about continuing to build it.

Ashlynn Proctor has been a star from the start. Years ago, when I first saw Ashlynn play and asked her club coach, Brennan Dean, about her, he said, “Just you wait.”

She delivered. Her numbers form the cleanest growth line in the class. She hit .329 as a freshman, .375 as a sophomore, and is hitting .432 as a junior.

The volume has been there from the start. She had 484 kills as a freshman, then 750 as a sophomore at 6.1 kills per set. This season, 55.9 percent of her swings have ended in kills. More than half of her attacks end the rally, and that is what an outside looks like when her shot selection catches up to her arm.

She has 1,678 career kills, 785 digs, 212 aces and 114 total blocks. That's a complete profile, from a player who reads the block in the air and puts the ball where the defense isn't.

Stanford is getting a primary scorer who gets more efficient every year.

Chayse Courtney has been playing on the biggest stages since her freshman year, when she showed poise well beyond her age at the CIF State Finals. She was named to the 2025 MaxPreps Sophomore All-America Team and the 2026 Preseason MaxPreps All-America Team.

Her early junior numbers are a small sample, but a loud one. She had 73 kills through her first 14 sets, hitting .532. On September 5, Chayse had 14 kills while hitting .542 in a sweep of Marin Catholic, then added 18 kills at .692 in a sweep of Folsom that same day. Putting up that kind of efficiency twice in one day says as much about her consistency as her power.

This summer, she earned an invite to the NTDP Summer Training Series in Hamilton, Ohio, at the U18-U19 level. As a 2028, she was training against older athletes, and national evaluators trusted her to hold her own there. That kind of invite speaks to her decision-making and composure as much as her arm.

At Durango, she played with the composure of a player who has been in big moments since day one. Mitty has relied on her in all six rotations, and she has answered.

Riley Stringer's first varsity season at Mater Dei has put her in the middle of one of the best programs in the country. She has 484 assists through 98 sets, averaging 4.9 per set, along with 33 aces and 122 digs.

Setters earn trust through decisions, not highlights. Riley understands that the work starts with knowing who she's setting.

“What I learned about running the offense at Mater Dei is truly how important it is to learn your hitters. What specific set is going to make them the most successful and what kinda relationship you need to set with them in order for trust to grow.”

That is a setter thinking like a coach. Her time at the NTDP this summer took it a step further.

“The NTDP summer training changed the way I strategize during the game. It's not always about how well you set, but what opportunities you create for yourself and for your teammates. It made me reach a new level of play because now I'm able to keep the other team's defense guessing.”

She operates with the awareness of a setter who sees the whole court, including the blockers on the other side. As a 5-foot-11 S/RS, she is a real attacking threat herself, so that unpredictability is built into her game.

“What made Hawai'i feel like the perfect fit was the coaches and culture. Coach Joshua, Heather, Will, and Kolby are really amazing human beings and I have so much respect for their commitment to the game. I love their competitive fire and kind spirit! What I love about the culture of Hawaii is that it's all about family. You know that you are coming to be a part of something bigger. It's such an honor to not only represent the school but to represent the state of Hawai'i!”

Hawai'i is getting a setter who builds trust with her hitters and keeps defenses guessing. Those are the habits that win at the next level.

Makenna Grieshaber's stats show two seasons of growth. Her kills went from 110 to 162, her hitting percentage jumped from .122 to .212, and she has 121 total blocks across two years.

What I saw at Triple Crown this past February showed where that growth comes from. She sealed the net consistently, pressed over with intention and closed seams with improved lateral quickness. Middles who fix their footwork tend to see their blocking numbers follow.

She has grown into her size. At 6-foot-3, she now moves like a player who knows exactly how to use it.

Izabella Slavkov's game is built on blocking power, shot variety and the ability to terminate from either pin. She has been doing it against top competition for years. At Triple Crown in 2025, her blocking was a big reason Tstreet's 15s made opponents uncomfortable at the net.

Izabella, Piper Coady and Riley Stringer all came up together on that same Tstreet 15s team, and all three are now ranked in California's 2028 top 10. That says a lot about the competition she trained against every day.

Izabella is uncommitted. College coaches looking for a pin who can score from both sides should be calling her yesterday.

When I evaluated Carolina Delaney at the PNQ in 2025, my takeaway was simple: she knows how to win. When I spoke to her club coach, Katie Pease, she told me, “Carolina is a player you need to have on your radar.” That radar has only gotten louder.

Her biggest jump this year came from the weight room.

“I focused a lot on strength training in the offseason, and I think that's made the biggest difference in my game. I'm stronger and more powerful, which has helped me hit harder, be more physical at the net, and play with more confidence.”

Strength paired with her skill set is a dangerous combination. She already had the shots. Now she has the power to finish them against bigger blocks. She plays with the mindset of a six-rotation outside, and that is how she sees her role.

“As an outside hitter, I want to be someone my team can rely on in all six rotations. I'm proud of how I've stayed focused, supported my teammates, and continued to compete throughout the season.”

After NTDP the summer before her sophomore season, Carolina said the coach who made the biggest impression on her was Pepperdine's Hillary Hurley, who taught her how to dive on the block. Her connection to Pepperdine goes back even further than that.

“I've loved Pepperdine ever since my grandparents took me to a game there when I was in sixth grade. I've also attended volleyball camps there and had the opportunity to get to know the program, which made it feel like an even better fit for me. I love the location and beautiful campus, and I really appreciate how invested the coaches are in their players and the relationships they build with them. Pepperdine feels like a great fit for my personality, and I can see myself growing there as both a player and a person.”

Pepperdine is getting a pin who wins with poise and now with power, and who has loved the Waves since she was in sixth grade.

PrepDig released the updated 2028 California Rankings.
These top 10 athletes have habits, résumés and trajectories that college coaches have already acted on. Eight are committed. Two are still available.
Statistics cited are sourced from MaxPreps and entered by coaches through the MaxPreps Team Admin system, as of October 15, 2026. Junior season stats are still being updated.

Subscribing doesn't change who the Scout covers, it changes who gets to see it.

After the summer training…
Kaleia “KJ” Zeits is one of the few players on this list whose MaxPreps numbers tell the whole story, and they tell it loudly. She has been on Glendora's varsity floor since her freshman year. In three seasons, she has…
Ashlynn Proctor has been a star from the start. Years ago, when I first saw Ashlynn play and asked her club coach, Brennan Dean, about her, he said, “Just you wait.” She delivered. Her numbers form the cleanest growth line…
Stanford is getting a pin who has been winning at the highest level.

CSUN is getting a middle whose best volleyball is still in front of her.

When I spoke to her club coach, Katie Pease, she told me, “Carolina is a player you need to have on…
