We’ve been following Ashby’s development for a while. She didn’t take long to capture our attention when she represented Nebraska Juniors on the club stage. Ashby was also a stat-stuffing force in her early days as the libero for Aurora High School. Her career took another turn when she spent her final prep season at Grand Island Senior High and helped the Islanders clinch their second straight Class A tournament appearance. That high-profile accomplishment is the product of Ashby’s tireless work to improve her backcourt craft, and we’ll miss seeing her around the Nebraska circuit.

Ashby’s move to Grand Island Senior High produced immediate results. The Central Nebraska standout registered over 550 digs during the regular season to rank near the top of the Class A hierarchy. This set up GISH for a return trip to Lincoln, where the Islanders went a round further than last year’s effort. Ashby had 22 digs in Grand Island’s upset win over Omaha Westside and had 20 more against Elkhorn South. This star senior has undoubtedly proven herself against the state’s best.

Aurora’s star libero was back at it again. Ashby has shown her superior command of the backcourt in both high school and club venues. This was a huge year for the veteran defender when she competed with Nebraska Juniors, and Ashby hasn’t missed a beat with Huskies this fall. Perhaps the most notable element of Ashby’s performance last week, aside from her technical skills, was her willingness to be an emotional leader as Aurora battled throughout the tournament.

Here’s a small-town star having a huge year on a variety of stages. Ashby dazzled is during the club season with her lockdown defense in the Nebraska Juniors gym. She’s been a star at Prep Dig Showcase events, too. Now, the Aurora junior is back on the prep scene and has accumulated six digs per set in the first handful of matches.

Aurora has a decorated history of standout defensive specialists, and you can add Ashby to that growing list. She was one of Nebraska’s most productive sophomore defenders this fall and was equally impactful in Aurora’s serve receive patterns. Ashby made the trip down to Kansas City for our showcase event at Dynasty Volleyball Academy, and her skills shone among a large group of Kansas and Missouri athletes.
