Wahoo’s Glock Knew “the Second I Stepped on Campus” She Wanted to be a Trojan

Wahoo’s Glock Knew “the Second I Stepped on Campus” She Wanted to be a Trojan

One of the top 2021 setting prospects in the nation made her commitment to play at USC on Thursday when Wahoo's Elle Glock pledged to play for the Women of Troy.

"I chose USC because of the coaches. My dad has always told me that when I decide to play a college sport I really have to play for a coach that I can see myself working really hard for. I had the opportunity to work with Coach Crouch at a camp hosted by my club, VCNebraska, and the other in California," Glock said. "Both times, I respected (USC coach Brent Couch's) coaching style and could picture myself working hard for him and his staff."

"I chose to commit now because it was a fit. I knew the second I stepped on campus at USC that was where I wanted to play volleyball."

Glock, a smooth and athletic 6-footer, is the top setter in Nebraska for the 2021 class and has turned heads on the major club circuit the past year with her athleticism and and soft hands. She's a little bit of a late bloomer, having primarily focused on basketball in her younger days. Her father, Jason, played basketball at Nebraska. She didn't start setting until her 14s season at VCNebraska and, in fact, still has not set in a high school match after playing on the right side her freshman year.

"The most important thing VCN did for me was develop me all around. So when I went to high school this past volleyball season and our team needed a RS hitter, I was able to play that position effectively. Once we won the Class C-1 state championship (last season), I started to get noticed as someone that could play volleyball," Glock said. "As I entered club season at VCN, our coach, Kelly O’Conner, played me in a 5-1 offense for my very first time. Another significant time for me at VCN was when VCN staff decided it was best for me to play on the 14 Elite team two years in a row. That was huge for me as a setter because I needed a pace that I could easily learn and not get frustrated and have more of a leader role. Dan Mader was the 14 Elite coach both years and he really pushed me in my setting skills."

It's rare that a player with the talent of Glock leaves the state when you consider she's a half-hour away from both Nebraska and Creighton - two of the best programs in the nation. However, Nebraska secured an early commitment from the best 2021 setter in the nation in Kennedi Orr over a year ago and Creighton nabbed the likely #2 setter in the nation in Kendra Wait. The fact that Glock blossomed a little late as a setter and the Huskers and Bluejays already had commitments made the Wahoo sophomore-to-be a hot commodity nationally once powerhouse programs realized they had a rare opportunity to pluck a big-time prospect from Nebraska.

Glock said Penn State, Kansas and Virginia were also in the mix, but ultimately she just loved everything about USC.

"I’m most excited about playing for a great program and awesome coaches that I respect. I also love the tempo of USC’s offense so I’m super excited to run that someday," Glock said. "If I can have all that and get a great education on top of it, I can’t want anything more! Ok - maybe some beaches!"
