This class has next-level potential across the board.

We've been rolling through the Class of 2028 coverage as the big June 15th threshold approaches. College recruiters are about to start conversations with the next wave of rising juniors, and we're eager to get a head start on the 2028 chatter.

Nebraska has dozens of emerging athletes worthy of this spotlight. That includes players on our 2028 watch list, which is about to transform as we evaluate our next rankings update. We also have a large group of ranked players ready to climb the ladder even further. Whatever the case, the Great Plains Region is full of names worth knowing.

Keep these stock-rising "hidden gems" on your big board, as they won't be hidden for long.

2028 liberos have been a frequent discussion topic in Nebraska circles, so we undoubtedly have some hidden backcourt gems to highlight. Hartle paves the way after excelling during Club Legacy 16 Bravo's stay at the Great Plains Region Bid Tournament. This twitchy defensive specialist has brought her best on the GPR circuit, but she also had a fruitful tenure at Kansas City's Show Me Qualifier. Hartle's visibility ticked up after her most recent visit to our Prep Dig Showcase series, and the club season has added a little more momentum heading into Year 3 at Elkhorn South.

Let's stay in the Elkhorn South stable. The Storm will look a lot different in 2026, giving opportunities for players like Sumner to shuffle the Class of 2028 hierachy. This savvy setter has kickstarted her development while leading VCNebraska 16 Blue to some head-turning results this spring. The team earned a runner-up finish at last month's Nebraska Showdown and was similarly proficient at the Mizuno Midwest Challenge. Consistent play is often funneled through the setter spot, and this is where Sumner's influence is felt. Her up-tempo command reflects the style we'd expect from a VCNebraska signal-caller.

There's that Omaha Fusion unit again. We've had a lot to say about this group since seeing it at the GPR Bid Tournament, and Humann has clearly been a worthy addition to the fold. She plays around the dial at the setter spot and has the full toolbox for a 5-1 distributor. Aside from her ability to put hitters in good spots, Humann is a strong wing blocker who won't bring any deficit to Fusion's net presence. That versatility will turn into on-court value at USAV Nationals.

We're fresh off a feature on 2028 stars playing up a year with the 17s, but why not add one more? Zbylut has anchored the Banzai VBC 17 Select defense through several high-profile tournament stops, including early April's Windy City Qualifier. The Bellevue West sophomore was eager to dig heat against older peers and was especially adept at locking down the crosscourt. Last fall's Class A scene gave us a glimpse at Zbylut's fearlessness against elite foes, as she tallied a triple-digit dig total as an underclassman. Elite experience is racking up for Zbylut and her Omaha-area peers.

Yes, we're staying in the 17s scene for another "overachieving" 2028 prospect. Hall is an explosive outside attacker whose sky-high contact point persists on either pin. She has logged quality reps on the left side with Omaha Skutt Catholic, but Hall has primarily anchored one of Premier Nebraska 17 Red's opposite positions this spring. This year's 17 Red lineup has leaned on a few different 2028s, and Hall's infectious energy made the move worthwhile. The Great Plains Region Bid Tournament provided yet another testament of Hall's soaring ceiling--even against more seasoned foes.

Weiss has rapidly ascended to become one of the most dynamic defenders in Nebraska Elite's 2028 camp. She represents a 16 Alpha crew that features plenty of new faces this year, but it has all meshed together to produce an impressive on-court display. Weiss sets the tone with her quick first steps and willingness to reach outside her midline to make touches. This month started with an extraordinary outing at the Salt Lake City Showdown, where Weiss's gritty playstyle flourished against the nation's best. Her rankings rise is on the horizon.

Allow us to tap into Nebraska's vast pool of small-town standouts from the 2025 high school season. Mitchell stars for Paxton High School in multiple sports, which is already a top-tier selling point for recruiters. But Mitchell's volleyball production alone should keep her in the mix among Nebraska's 2028 terminators. She produced well over two kills per set in each of her underclassman seasons with the Tigers, and that's not the full extent of her output. Mitchell's defensive prowess has also shone, and she's due for an expanded role along the end line next fall. It's a perfect storm for any stage.

This class has next-level potential across the board.
