The culminating event for the CEVA season is the Regional tournament. All teams participating in CEVA Power League compete for their final standing of the season. For this series, we will be spotlighting athletes from teams that finished in the top 20 for the 18U/16U division who were nominated by their club coach, or a club coach from another team.

Without further ado, here are the 2023 setters that had stellar performances.

Committed: Oregon State University

A certified “baller” per her coaches, Corpe is exceptional at her role as the primary setter. With 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="91362" first="Hayden" last="Hamilton"] moving to Bend, all setting duties were tasked to Corpe this season and she rose to the challenge. As the only setter on the roster, Corpe knew the pressure was high, but that did not rattle her. All season long she played consistent and confident. Over Regionals weekend, she ran a 5-1 and helped her team achieve a fifth place finish in the 18U region. She runs a fast offense, and does a good job running the court.

Kensi Erion, 5’5”, S, Newberg High School, Volleyball Alliance 18-Monica

Erion was given high praise from her coaches for successfully running a 5-1 most of the weekend. She did a great job spreading out her sets and mixing up her set locations. Also, Erion was one of the best servers throughout the two days and played some lights-out defense, a definite must in a high-level setter.

[player_tooltip player_id="97314" first="Annie" last="Hite"], Skyview High School, Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy 18 Gold

A late addition to the OJVA 18 Gold team when their primary setter [player_tooltip player_id="91233" first="Laila" last="Leaks"] went down with an injury mid-season the team called upon Hite and she rose to the challenge. Previously setting for OJVA 17 Blue, the change of pace was significant but this did not phase Hite. She is also the only 2023 on the roster, playing with a team stacked with 2022 talent. With Leaks back for Regionals weekend, they ran a 6-2. Her setting abilities helped the team finish #1 in the CEVA 18U region.

[player_tooltip player_id="164248" first="Dylan" last="Retzloff"], 5’10”, S, Mountain View High School, COVC 18-1

Retzloff was the primary setter for the COVC 18-1 squad at Regionals, helping her team achieve a high final standing in the region. She plays with a passion and love for the game that shines through. Her connection with her hitters and her smart offensive choices make her indispensable. Also, Retzloff is not afraid to take big swings in the front row to defend the overpass.
