Nebraska Juniors to Host Youth Camp, Expanding to Add Pair of 13s & 14s Teams

LINCOLN – No club in the state has produced more Division I players than Nebraska Juniors. And after having a focus solely on 15s-18s, Nebraska Juniors has decided to expand to now include 13s and 14s as well starting this fall.

As a result, Nebraska Juniors will be running a Youth Individual Skills Camp for players entering grades 7-9 in a couple weeks. The camp will take place from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. with a lunch break August 4-5 at Spikes Bar & Grill in Lincoln.

Since 1999, Nebraska Juniors has produced 65 players that have gone on to play Division I volleyball and has sent countless others to Division II, III and NAIA schools. The club also has produced 21 past, present and future Cornhuskers.

“We're adding 13-14s because we feel like there is too much focus on playing games at that age and not enough on training and learning the fundamentals of all skills,” Club Director Ryan Gray said. “It is not fair to the players at that age to be pigeon-holed into one position. They need to learn all positions and all skills.”

Nebraska Juniors fielded a 13s team this season, and Gray said the club decided to have two 13s and two 14s teams starting this fall, along with its usual two teams for each age group of 15s-18s. Gray also emphasized that Nebraska Juniors is not an “invite only” club and welcomes all players to its tryouts from across the state. He said participation in the skills camp or coming to future open gyms is a great way for volleyball players to come get a feel for what they can expect from the club.
