Ohio HS Volleyball Weekly Recap (8/29-9/4)

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Ursuline Falls to Assumption (KY)</em></strong><br>Among the state's best in Ohio and Kentucky, Ursuline and Assumption faced off this past weekend. Assumption took the win by set scores of 2-1. After dropping the first set, Ursuline came back and knotted up the match with a 25-22 set two win. The third set was tight with Assumption, one of the nation's top-ranked teams, claiming the win 15-13. The Lions are a senior laden team with the power and efficiency of <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='114516' first='Brooke' last='Bultema']</strong> and the skilled distribution of <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='141725' first='Lindsey' last='Green']</strong>, but it is a pair of sophomores that are making some of the biggest contributions. The length of <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='176087' first='Katie' last='Gielas']</strong> at the pins is earning the Lions nearly four kills per set as she is terminating 50% of her attempts. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='195856' first='Lindy' last='Radaszewski']</strong> is terminating 51% of her opportunities and contributing 2.4 kills per set. Ursuline, 6-1 overall, gets into GGCL play this week at home versus Mercy McCauley on Tuesday and then on the road against St. Ursula on Thursday. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Mount Notre Dame Sweeps Centerville</em></strong><br>In a match featuring two Division I teams poised to win their respective conferences and featuring some highly touted prospects, the Cougars of MND handled the Elks of Centerville 3-0 by set scores of 25-16, 25-22, 25-21. Junior pin hitter <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='152117' first='Mialee' last='Dabbelt']</strong> was the only Centerville attacker to reach double figure kills as she had 10 on the night, hitting at a .385 efficiency. Sophomore <strong>Payton Miller</strong> led the defense with 10 digs. This was MND's first match of the season as they prepare for a big week. They are scheduled to face league rival Seton on Tuesday before participating in the much anticipated Louisville Invitational this next weekend. Their top prospects include seniors <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='141722' first='Audrey' last='Armbruster']</strong> (S/OH), <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='114559' first='Katie' last='Wilking']</strong> (MH) and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='114562' first='Ava' last='Wolfer'] </strong>(DS/L). </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Calvert Goes 2-1</em></strong><br>The Calvert Senecas competed in a tournament over the weekend with three matches on the schedule. With a 2-1 record on the weekend they improved their overall record to 7-1. Their lone loss was to a good Bishop Hartley team from Columbus. The Senecas' offense is led by two of the top 2024 Ohio prospects in <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='169099' first='Camryn' last='Shook']</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='139279' first='Caroline' last='Lanicek']</strong>. Shook terminated 4.3 kills per set on the weekend including 14 kills while hitting .400 in a 2-1 win over Wooster. She is currently hitting .472 on the season. Lanicek, a 6'0 middle, had a lot of success in 2021 and has picked up right where she left off averaging 3.5 kills per set. She also had 14 kills versus Wooster while adding three blocks for her best single-match production at Saturday's tournament. She is a handful in the middle for opponents as she is terminating 47% of her opportunities to complement the big space she can fill on the defensive side. They return to conference play on Tuesday versus Hopewell-Loudon (3-3).</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
