Continue ReadingThe Dakine Surf 17 team is loaded with talent and training for a tough national schedule. Trips to St. Louis, Utah, Nevada, California, and more are on the schedule. This team features a roster consisting of multiple returners from the excellent 16 Surf team of last season, along with key additions along the front line. This should be one of the top 17’s teams in the Puget Sound Region, with realistic hopes of making noise nationally.
A tough defender who can take care of business in serve receive, Brown also has a heavy arm swing as an outside. She is very comfortable in the middle back, and the Silas High School prospect reads the game well defensively. Versatile enough to swing from the right side, she has vision of the block on offense and can play the ball hard angle or down the line to score.

A 2026 libero, Nguyen is an excellent beach player and that shows up on the hard court. She reads tips and off-speed, then has the timing and quickness to get there even against well placed shots. In left back she has shown she can handle blistering shots right at her, doing a nice job cushioning the ball and keeping her setters out of the net. One to watch for 2026!

Her versatility is an exciting part of the 6’2 juniors game. Skilled enough to set, then powerful enough to swing from both pins, Byers gives Dakine multiple options when choosing a formation. In any front-row position, she is an excellent blocker, with a swing tailor-made for catching high hands. Her length defensively along with her beach training and overall athleticism let her run down shots and make plays that might be out of reach for some players.

Hayes is a valuable part of the defensive backline for Dakine. Able to step into a libero role, or come up with an ace at a crucial time, she posted big serving number for Tumwater High School this season. Hayes is smart and strong enough to stand in against outside hitters bringing the heat and keeping a sound platform to deliver passes at the right location and tempo.

An excellent all-around outside, much like teammates Ivy Brown and Grace Wesenberg, Clarkson has the skills and athleticism to contribute in all phases of the game. She has a smooth swing and likes to drive it deep down the line or find high hands to score off the block. The junior was the MVO of the CoHo Division this season for Northwest, and will be carrying that momentum into the club campaign.

Toa is an anchor for the team on the frontline defensively, with strong hands and a big block that can be intimidating for her opponents. She shined at the state tournament for Graham-Kapowsin and showed the ability to power a team with her passion and competitiveness. She is part of a middle rotation that features four standouts for the Surf team and will continue to show an improved offensive skill set.
