We have to give some credit to the Minden middles who scored at an incredible clip during this year’s title-winning season. Betty was particularly dominant in the four-set win over Wahoo, registering 10 kills on a .533 clip. We need to give more credit to the middles after Minden’s championship run in Class C1. Betty is a tremendous athlete who presents some surprising physicality at the net. That physicality quickly entered the spotlight via some incredible stuff blocks in the title bout with Kearney Catholic. There’s no doubt that the Whippets loved running their outsides, but a strong middle presence from Betty helped open up those opportunities on the pins.

Minden’s state championship effort may have appeared pin-heavy at times, but we can’t forget about what rising stars like Betty accomplished. The Whippets love their quick, springy middle blockers, and that’s the exact niche Betty filled. Moreover, her blocking reads were often a catalyst for big Minden scoring runs in the tournament’s biggest moments.

Betty is another one from that pipeline to get plugged into our rankings, and we’re fascinated to see how this middle blocker keeps developing.
