That certainly was the case at last weekend’s Six Pack Invitational played on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa. These right-side hitters did just that:
Perhaps no player in the state has improved more than Maue has during the last few years. She’s a problem on the right side for her opponents with a huge lefty swing carrying high-end power. The Arkansas commitment has advanced her court vision to complement her natural gifts, understanding when she can blast through the block and when to smash it across the court to an opening or at an overmatched defender.
Wazac is a player that improves each time I watch her in person. Like Maue, she provides her teams with an intimidating lefty swing on the right side. She’s expanded her game during the last year, showing she can deliver on the outside pin, too. The Wichita State commitment possesses long arms and good timing, allowing her to defend well at the net. She’s still a ways away from hitting her ceiling, which should be exciting for the Shocker volleyball fans.

I watched Mehaffy play a few times during the prep season for Marion and was impressed. She put together a consistently good performance in this event, too. She times her hits well and gets good depth on them, creating problems for opponents trying to stay in system. While the right side is her best position, she also hits it with gusto from the opposite pin. She’s a fundamentally sound player, too.
Ragins provides Iowa Select with an accomplished performer on the right side, showing an aptitude for crushing the ball or blocking it when it’s coming the other way. She shows a good feel for the game and strong court awareness,. Her athleticism shines through in her explosion off of the court and ability to hang in the air. Ragins recognizes the block quickly, allowing her to adjust her swing.

Laughlin enjoyed a super junior season this past fall as an all-around performer, ranking among Belle Plaine’s leaders in kills and digs. She fits nicely into this talented IPVA roster with her versatility clearing the way for her to help wherever needed. That’s mostly on the right side, where she complements AK Christensen AK Christensen 5’10” | OH Carlisle | 2025 State IA and keeps opponents from focusing too much defensive attention on the outside. She excels with consistency and reliability.
Overton matches Maue and Wazac with the power she generates on her swings from the right side. She’s not as tall and doesn’t have the long arms of those two, but she makes up for that with her explosiveness off the floor. She uses a keen eye to direct her hits away from blocks regularly and sharp court vision to find holes in the defense. I think there’s more room for Overton to grow as a player, which is exciting considering how productive she is already.
Landry Glasgow
Landry Glasgow
Glasgow is an accomplished all-around athlete for Dallas Center-Grimes. She certainly puts that athleticism to good use on the volleyball court. She can hit from various spots on the floor, especially bringing a hammer to the right side. She ranked second on the Mustangs in kills this past season and third in blocks. Glasgow works well with the talent around her on this Impact squad.
