The top-ranked defender in our initial rankings, Number 11 gets the job done in the back row. Her court awareness and instincts set her apart in the class at this point. She reads the offense attack at a high level and reacts fast to heat coming her way. She is poised and consistently gets the ball to the location in receiving and her defensive ball control.
Highlights
Wright is a player who stands out with her play from the back row. She passes with high precision and has a great platform. Her athleticism is impressive, evidenced by her ability to play six rotations during the high school season. This experience surely played a role in her high volleyball IQ as it helped her read offensive attacks.
Highlights
Our third-ranked defender is a libero who makes things look so easy in her play on the court. Ottis puts herself in a good position based on reading the setter and their ball placement. When I saw her live and on film this spring, she rarely had to get on the floor because she’s a step ahead. She is as poised a player as I’ve seen this spring, including all age groups of defenders. Her stock will continue to rise.
Highlights
Heberle is a high-effort player making her entry into the top 30 at 27. I’ve seen her in the libero jersey and as a defensive specialist, and she does her job regardless of the position. As a libero, she has a quick first step and gets balls up that may touch the floor against other teams. While in the specialist role, she maintains middle back with accurate passing and strong defense.
Highlights
Our 5th ranked defender and final in the top 30 is Massey. Another dependable libero who keeps the ball off the ground with strong instincts and a quick first step. She is strong behind the service line, and an added asset to her skill set. Another part of her game that raised her ranking is her second ball sets, she is one of the best in this defender group.
