These athletes may not have the glitzy awards, may not be the first option to scoring points, but when it comes to their team they make it happen. They know what it takes to get it done and they will be ones who will be essential to the success throughout the season. The players who are able to accept their role, own it, and do it well just make things flow that much better. Here are some athletes who just play their role extremely well.
Katherine Wong – Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”]
Wong will be a Senior on a team from Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”] with the likes of Kennedi Orr, a Nebraska commit and one of the top middles in the Class of 2022 in Kendal Kemp. Wong came up big in some of the post season matches for Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”] last year enroute to a state runner-up finish. A six rotation outside who is skilled in every facet of the game is going to be important yet again for Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”] who will be back with their eyes on the big prize this upcoming season. Wong will be key for serve receive and scoring points in big situations.
Kate Long – Wayzata
Long is going to be one of the many weapons to score points for Wayzata, a Class AAA favorite this upcoming season. The Senior class is definitely loaded with talent with the likes of Olivia Johnson at setter, and the two Division 1 commits in Lily Emlong (Elon) and Elizabeth Helmich (James Madison). Long will be on the outside and will be a consistent threat for Wayzata. There might be nights where she could be in double digit kills depending on the matchup. She will be a solid pick up at the next level.
Megan Panser – Champlin Park
Panser was a DS for Champlin Park’s state title run last year, providing some big depth in the backrow. This season, Panser could be filling into the libero position where her role will increase as the go to defender. Her demeanor on the court is always calm, cool, and collected. Don’t count the Rebels out, they still have plenty of offensive weapons back from their 2018 state championship team in Jordan Stalpes, Sami Hilley, and Hannah Praskey.
Jaidyn Brower – Stewartville
Stewartville is full of athletes, they always have been. This upcoming season they will have two major swings in Kaitlin Prondzinski, outside hitter committed to Illinois State and Erin Lamb who is one of the top middles in the Class of 2021. With these big time hitters, they will need a setter who can get them the ball. Brower was big in her Sophomore year and will continue to be key for Stewartville who will be looking bust through to the state tournament.
Jensen Luehrs – Champlin Park
Luehrs will step into the right side role that was occupied by Northern Iowa recruit Emma Schmidt. A lefty with a fast arm, Luehrs may not be the big time point score for the Rebels, but there is no doubt about her impact at the net. She will bring a solid block, but also the ability to score points where she can go with a hard swing or change up the speed to score with a roll or tip.
