New names that caught our eye at the Freshman Showcase

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The freshmen on Sunday morning are radar ready after showcasing their talent at the Prep Dig Dallas Freshman Showcase. The showcase is a great way to be put in a pressure situation and show a wide range of skills and abilities. It gives athletes a perspective on what they excel at and what they need to work on. It also puts them in a healthy, yet uncomfortable feeling to help them grow and excel playing with unfamiliar players and court coaches. Here is a quick list of some radar ready Freshman:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Wylie High School's 5'9” Setter [player_tooltip player_id='580654' first='Berkeley' last='Weidinger'] has great hands, strong wrists and is quick to release. She also has a big swing from the opposite pin when she gets a chance to swing. She is quick footed and can jump out of the gym. Weidinger does a nice job of penetrating the net when blocking. She can hit the deep cross court shot. Would be great in a 6-2 to utilize her both hitting and setting. Really love her athleticism! She has a high ceiling!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>5 '6 " Defensive Specialist/Libero [player_tooltip player_id='580665' first='Emily' last='Boomstra'] is out of Hockaday High School, plays great floor defense and is able to keep her team in the rally. She was all over the court chasing balls down and reading hitters. She was strong in out of system balls. She has great hands and strong wrists to keep the offense going. Boomstra has a lot of potential!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another high flyer is [player_tooltip player_id='580714' first='Valentina' last='Betancourt']. The 5'10” Outside Hitter will attend Trinity High School and plays club for Skyline Royal. She can fly to the ball, and is super athletic. Betancourt is quick and takes a big rip each time. One other thing she excels at is transitioning well to give her time to take big shots. Betancourt has huge abilities and is only getting started!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='500890' first='Gracie' last='White'] is a 6'3” Middle headed to Plano West High School in the fall. She plays club for [program_tooltip program_id='431200' first='Madfrog' last='']. She has long levers and moves well laterally. She is also a very strong blocker. White does a nice job of getting up and getting wrist away shots. White also does a nice job of being patient and not over running the set. She keeps the ball in front of her, which gives her lots of different shots.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>5 '9 " [player_tooltip player_id='580680' first='Jillian' last='Smith'] is an Outside Hitter headed to Boswell High School and plays club for [program_tooltip program_id='510733' first='Drive' last='Nation']. She is a strong athlete who has a ready, steady platform in the back row. She takes big swings at the pin and is aggressive at the net. Smith is very explosive and finds the ball well. She gets on top of the ball and can hit high hands.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>5 '9'' Setter [player_tooltip player_id='512953' first='Trynity' last='Alsaid'] is headed to Poteet High School and plays club for [program_tooltip program_id='431200' first='Madfrog' last='']. Alsaid has strong wrists and can set the ball from anywhere on the floor. Her secondary position, the Right Side is where she takes big rips at the ball and does an excellent job of covering her hitters. Love her hustle and versatility on the floor! Alsaid is always in a ready position whether in defense or ready to release to set.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A big time hustler describes [player_tooltip player_id='578521' first='Abbie' last='Yochum'] a 5'8” Outside Hitter. The freshman has great court sense and is able to find the floor on a deep two handed dump or a sneaky tip over the block. She has great hands out of system, so if the setter is out, the offense would still thrive if needed. Yochum does a great job of talking on the floor. She also does a great job of sticking her platform on defense. Yochum will attend Azle High School and plays club for Fire.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Boswell High School's [player_tooltip player_id='580667' first='Emma' last='Stuhr'] is a 5'5” Setter who has quick feet and is really athletic. She reads opposing hitters well. Stuhr does a nice job of distributing the ball across the net across her hitters and mixing it up!&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='580695' first='Madi' last='Bennett'] is a 5'3” Defensive Specialist/Libero watching her do out of system setter drills she has a beautiful backset and was hustling all over the court! Bennett reads well, talks and has great hands. Love her hustle and never quit attitude. Madi will go to Rock Hill High School and plays club for Summit.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Keep these athletes on the radar this fall season as we transition from club to High School. Some of these athletes play different positions during club then high school and it enhances their volleyball IQ and ability.
