Houston Freshman Showcase – Top Performers Vol 3

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Who are the best freshmen volleyball players in Texas?&nbsp; We definitely saw some players who wanted that title over the weekend at our Freshman Showcases. &nbsp;The first session was held on Saturday July 27^th at the Competitive Edge Training facility in Houston, TX. &nbsp;The one aspect that sets our showcases apart from every other one in the country is how we offer coverage, before, during, and after it is completed.&nbsp; This series of articles will discuss those special players that stood out for various reasons to our court coaches and scouts.&nbsp; They have won our prestigious Top Performer award.&nbsp; Let's meet the winners!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='493335' first='Karsyn' last='St John'] [2028] 5-2 Libero (HS: Barbers Hill/Club: Xcel/Verbal: Uncommitted)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Karsyn is currently an unranked prospect in the 2028 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them yet.&nbsp; She plays volleyball at Barbers Hill High School and plays for the Xcel club volleyball program. &nbsp;Miss St. John showed us that she has some serious skills in the back row.&nbsp; I am always looking for those defenders and passers who stand out with solid fundamentals and that is exactly who Karsyn is.&nbsp; What I loved about her form is how she keeps her arms well away from her body before the ball is contacted by her platform.&nbsp; This helps her to be able to create angles if she needs to adjust prior to the ball making contact.&nbsp; The other aspect that truly stood out is how she is able to move backward and still keep her posture low.&nbsp; By not raising her shoulders up while moving backwards, it keeps her weight going forward to make sure the ball will travel forward toward her setter.&nbsp; This is absolutely key for serve receivers to stay consistent and keep their team's offense flowing.&nbsp; I love what I saw from her and you will too.&nbsp; Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='539898' first='Makenzie' last='Turosik']&nbsp;[2028] 5-6 Outside (HS: Providence Classical/Club: [program_tooltip program_id='462263' first='TAV' last='Houston']/Verbal: Uncommitted)&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Makenzie is currently an unranked prospect in the 2028 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them yet.&nbsp; She plays volleyball at Providence Classical High School and club for the [program_tooltip program_id='462263' first='TAV' last='Houston'] volleyball program.&nbsp; Miss Turosik is very well known by us at Prep Dig as she has proven to be a top performer multiple times at our showcases.&nbsp; Her ball control is top notch no matter which position she is playing.&nbsp; One thing that stands out about her when you watch her perform is how laser focused she is at all times.&nbsp; You can see her eyes tracking the ball and her brain is processing what to do next very fast.&nbsp; When she plays, you can totally see that she loves the game.&nbsp; It rubs off on her teammates and coaches.&nbsp; Numerous coaches spoke to me about her attitude and how pleasant she was to work with.&nbsp; Her lengthy frame allows her to cover a lot of ground in a hurry and this is key for an all around volleyball player who should never come off of the court.&nbsp; Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award at the showcase.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='574238' first='Shelby' last='Huckaby']&nbsp;[2028] 5-8 Setter (HS: Humble/Club: [program_tooltip program_id='510661' first='Houston' last='Skyline']/Verbal: Uncommitted)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Shelby is currently an unranked prospect in the 2028 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but that is only because we have not released them yet.&nbsp; She plays volleyball at Humble High School and also for the [program_tooltip program_id='510661' first='Houston' last='Skyline'] volleyball club program.&nbsp; Miss Huckaby can flat out fly on the pins and sends some thunderous attacks to her opponents.&nbsp; I like how she reaches up super high and contacts the ball at the peak of her reach.&nbsp; This makes it very difficult for opposing blockers to time her effectively.&nbsp; Blessed with a very quick wrist snap, her attacks have some extra pop on them and it helps to add a lot of pace on the ball as it rebounds off of her hand.&nbsp; Something that I have to comment on that stood out to me was how she keeps her hand aimed toward target after her serve.&nbsp; This tells me that she has amazing attention to detail and is very coachable.&nbsp; By doing this, she is making sure that her aim is solid and consistent.&nbsp; I love for young players to focus on small things like this.&nbsp; I will keep my eye on her now because of small things like that.&nbsp;
