About Amaya
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I'm the kind of player who's all about the details-whether we're in a high-stakes match or grinding through practice. I've been trusted in multiple positions and my coaches have highlighted my leadership, strong court vision, and high volleyball IQ. I stay composed in high-pressure situations and consistently execute with a purpose and confidence.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I set high expectations of myself and always give 100%. I am super driven and love pushing myself to improve. I care a lot about people around me and try to be an encouraging and easy person to talk to by bringing good vibes and positive energy wherever I go. Oh-I've been told that my laugh is loud, crazy, and at times totally contagious. Let's work hard and have fun while we do it together!
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
* Student Council
* Bridges Program, peer support program for students with disabilities
* Volunteering at Special Olympics of Michigan
* Will be shadowing at a dental practice this summer
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I've grown a lot in leadership and teamwork by being a peer buddy for students with autism and intellectual disabilities. Teachers trust me to support them, and I really enjoy helping them through moments or just being a friend to them. I also volunteered at the Special Olympics this spring and hope to start a team at my school next year.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
One challenge I've embraced is my unique family background. My father is an immigrant, and his family primarily speaks a different language and traditions. This can make visits and developing meaningful relationships tricky, This has taught me to be creative, patient, appreciate diverse perspectives, and more adaptable.
What type of college are you looking for?
I'm looking for a college that really values academics, especially with strong science programs or a solid pre-dental track. I want the majority of classes to be of smaller class sizes so I get to know my professors and classmates. It would prefer a school with an active student body with lots of clubs and things to get involved in. I'm want a serious school with a fun, lively vibe.
