About Lailah

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Hi! My name is Lailah Clayborne. When I play volleyball, I try to play with confidence and aggression- constantly trying to be there for my team and put the ball away. I find the open spots on the court and I take the game very seriously.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

In the game I am focused, determined, and motivated. I'm intentional about being the kind of teammate and player that I would want on the court with me, Im coachable and a great student. I take criticism and use it to improve.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

In May of 2024 I had the distinguished honor of being the salutatorian of my graduating class with a 4.325 GPA. Now a sophomore at Long Beach Polytechnic, I am on an AP track.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I am reliable, honest, accountable and I also practice daily gratitude. Playing volleyball has allowed me to prioritize my physical and mental health. I have learned the importance of creating and maintaining strong bonds with my coaches and teammates.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My first year of club volleyball I played on a twelves team. I made all of my friends on that team and started to feel like a good player. At the end of that season, the coach for the top fourteens team recruited me and almost immediately I started to compare myself to the girls on that team, and wish I was better. It was a challenge to change my mindset, but once I switched perspective I thrived.

What type of college are you looking for?

I want to attend a college that will provide me with a safe community to grow academically, spiritually, and physically. I value a college with a diverse student body and many opportunities. A positive and supportive volleyball team is important to me as well.
