About Ava

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a very competitive leader. My coaches would describe me as a hard working, fiery, and motivated player on the court. I have been club captain for 3 years in a row now.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I have a hard working mentality when it comes to volleyball. I am a very independent person and don’t need to be told what to do in order to get things done. I love my teammates like my best friends.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am on the superintendent’s honor roll, have a 4.1 gpa, am a member of my school’s sports media program, volunteer at my church’s special needs vbs, am a member of national honor society, national art honor society, AYAA, and my local central Arkansas astronomical society.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Besides being captain of my club team, I am a leader in my sports media program; which like any journalism program, requires dedication to timelines, content creation, creativity, and the ability to motivate others. I also volunteer with a dog adoption project called the Buford Project, and volunteer with special needs vbs.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I would say the most significant challenge for me recently was my mental state towards sports. I was stressed, felt like I wasn’t good enough, and put others before myself too often which made the game feel less like a game and more like a challenge. Now, I am more confident than ever and grateful for every second I spend on the court, and can truly say I feel better than ever.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college that puts the student in “student athlete”. School has always been important to me and I don’t want that to fall to the wayside. I want to be in art/design, and would love a program with lots of resources in that area. I would love a college with a sense of community, and opportunities to meet people through events and shared experiences.
