About Sylvia

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I would describe myself as a well rounded player with high volleyball IQ. I am currently hitting outside for my high school varsity team, but have hit right and done some setting for the team as well. For club I set and hit right. I am willing to do whatever it takes for my team to get the win, even if that means I do not get to play my favorite position. I am often told I am a great teammate.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am an "All In" type of person. No matter what I am doing, I go all in and like to succeed. I am often told I have an "Old Soul" and people feel safe and comfortable around me because I show kindness to everyone and accept everyone for who they are. I do not like negativity and drama and tend to stay away from that type of behavior. I am often called a "Servant Leader" by Coaches and Teachers.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am involved in the following programs at school: Peer Partners - Working closely with peers that have special needs Student Council - Organizing and participating in school activities Leadership Program - Organizing and participating in community service projects

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have developed leadership skills through my extra curricular activities and through club sports. Being a pitcher and a setter helped me develop skills that I need in order to lead in a servant manner. I am a very empathetic person and enjoy helping others. I am capable of speaking up when I see something wrong and have learned that maintaining my integrity is a priority in my life.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have faced many challenges. One very significant. I do not have room to write it all here but in summary I witnessed my Aunt experience a prolonged QT followed by a cardiac arrest immediately following one of my softball games. I had to call 911, and inform many family members while my Mom performed first aid/CPR. My Aunt survived after nearly 50 days in the hospital but has not been the same.

What type of college are you looking for?

I want to find a "home" for college. A place where I can play volleyball, focus on academics and feel safe while having fun. I love to watch sports as much as I love to play, so I would like to attend a college that supports all its programs. Academics is very important to me as well. I would like to find a college that helps me succeed academically and pave the way to a successful career.

I’ve scouted Kruse multiple times this year. I saw her performing with her club and then again during the LOVB Midwest Recruiting Showcase in June. Kruse spent time on last year’s Bobcat varsity, and her play this offseason indicates she’s prepared for a bigger role in 2025. Versatility should open up more opportunities for her. Kruse is a long-armed, taller setter capable of hitting all three front-row positions with accurate offerings. That height, along with athleticism, allows her to line up at the opposite pin, too. It’s a skill set that also works on the outside. Keep an eye on Kruse this season. She has breakout potential.
