Bracket Busters - Breakout Performances in the 15/16s Division

PrepDig offered a new tournament format this year with a play on March Madness. Offering a 1 day, multiple bracket style tournament, teams from across the state came to deliver their best. Due to the number of games in a short span of time, we were really able to see the players showcase their talents. The following players all had breakout performances and showcased a ton of grit and determination on the court. She has worked hard to not only develop her setting skills, but also the other aspects of her game including attacking, serving, and defense. Schaper does a great job reading and anticipating the ball. This allows her to move efficiently to get her feet to the ball on offense to deliver clean sets to her attackers and also make numerous digs and saves on defense. Schaper is a versatile athlete that will do whatever is asked of her. She will set, hit from the pin, or drop back to serve receive. She also proved to be a leader on the court by maintaining a positive attitude and encouraging her teammates in tense moments.     Lillie is a scrappy libero with a quick read and fast footwork. She provided excellent block coverage for her attackers and was able to recycle the ball many times, providing numerous second chance options for her team. She also did a good job tracking down out of system balls and made some impressive saves on the day. She also anticipated tips and rolls well, running through the ball and picking them up with ease.     Novak impressed as she ran the offense for her Tempo team. She has quick feet to get to the ball allowing her to deliver clean sets consistently. She also has a high window, making her quick release hard to read. Novak also did a great job moving the ball around and getting all of her hitters involved on offense. She made smart setting choices which isolated her attackers to allow them many one on one opportunities.     Worley is a versatile 6 rotation outside that finds a way to deliver an attack on every ball sent her way. Outsides typically get the less than perfect sets and the bulk of the out of system passes. Worley handled them in style. She transitioned quickly, exploded to the pin, and showcased an array of attacks ranging from strong cross court shots to tips over the block.     Davel is one of those players with a ton of potential. She has a solid vertical, transitions quickly off the next, explodes to the pin, and will take big swings. She routinely went up and over the block delivering shots done the line that teams found difficult to handle. Davel also played 6 rotations and was solid in passing and digging.     Simmons had a great day swinging from the pins and generating multiple kills to help her team battle their way through the brackets in gold. Simmons strengths and subsequent success come from her heavy, powerful arm swing. She was highly effective hitting hard shots through the seam and by going around the block to terminate down the line or deep cross. Simmons also showcased her defense skills. She put up a solid block and covered well in off blocker defense.
