About Lauren

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I try and keep my gameplay style light and fun, as that's what helps me play the best. Not holding onto my mistakes allows for more room to experiment, which helps me grow, get more touches, and have more confidence. I'm a loud talker, and have a strong court presence as a backrow player, taking leadership of the court.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Some things about my personality is that I'm talkative, easygoing, and a hard worker. Starting at the bottom of the totem pole, I knew I had a lot to work for, which has lit the fire within me to work hard an be my best. On and off the court, I try and have a good attitude and always hype up my teammates especially when we're down. Also I always look for feedback from coaches to improve my game.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I'm involved with a volunteer organization called Lions Heart, which is a community service group that does small projects to benefit one's community. Working hard at this, I have over 50 hours of community service, and am striving as president coming into Junior year.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Coming from a solo sport, golf, to volleyball, was a large transition. Never played on a team, it was unfamiliar the aspects of working together and creating a dynamic that worked in unison. Playing volleyball and playing libero has allowed me to flourish as a leader on the court, running the backrow and talking to my teammates.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

A significant setback for me was starting volleyball at such a late age. My first year of club volleyball was when I was fourteen, in which I was still learning how to play and trying to comprehend the complexities of the sport. Being so behind, I always felt that I was lost in the crowd, struggling to keep up as everyone was always progressing more. This challenge sparked my love for volleyball.

What type of college are you looking for?

I'm looking for college that is possibly near me, Huntington Beach, but I'm willing to explore other options. On the volleyball side, I'm looking for a program to help elevate my game in a competitive environment, and have a team that has my back on and off the court. Academically speaking, I'm interested in colleges with strong programs in either psychology or education.
