I try not to write on players in back to back articles, but there is no way to ignore how good Rowe’s performance was today. Simply put, her arm is a dangerous weapon. Her combination of speed and power overwhelmed many liberos and defensive specialists. In the first game of the day, the opposing libero even took a shot off the face. While nobody wants to see players get hurt, it is a reminder of just how quickly Rowe’s attacks come at defenders and how little time they have to react. Her ability to terminate at such a quick speed makes her tough to defend.

Rowe is a fun player to watch. She is dynamic in the middle as she is fast, fluid, and flexible which is basically everything you want in a middle blocker. She moves well along the net, gets up quickly, and has the athleticism to generate kills no matter what is sent her way. I thought she did a great job by making herself available and using her speed and vertical to get on top of the ball and generate kills. She proved to be too tough of a match up for opponents as her team went 3-0 on the day again.

Jillian Rowe’s impact came from her discipline and ability to read the game. She tracks the setter’s body and reacts instead of guessing, which allows her to close blocks under control. Rowe moves laterally with balance and consistently seals inside hands, taking away high-percentage swings from opposing pins.
