– 5’6 | Northern Lights 17-2
As the primary libero for a very good class 3A East Ridge team, Saewert has great competitive experience that she brings to the court. She has good body control and develops a square frame through her shoulders and hips towards the ball that allows her good range in her platform work. This is also enhanced by patience and balance as the opponent develops their offense or delivers the serve. Another strength is a crafty sense and skill set from the service line that can put pressure on opponents. Her jump float moves through a variety of pace and can be placed in various locations. Keep an eye on her as, although this is a second team for Northern Lights, they are dynamic, have good depth, and compete very well.
Brynn Smith – 5’6 | MN Select 17-2
Smith is a key element to this squad’s ball control and defensive effort in the back row. She has a great foundation in her vision, pursuit, and in developing angles. She has good quickness to chase down or dive for a ball, which increases her range to make a playable first contact that can allow for a healthy swing by their offense. An evaluation may suggest that by creating more patient and simple body position as the play develops and at the point of attack by the opponent, this deliberate preparation would eliminate guessing, wasted movement, or negative steps while simplifying the type of move she makes to pursue the ball. Smith has a good skill foundation.

– 5’7 | M1 17-1
Wheatcraft is a primary passer and big contributor on the defensive side for this highly athletic and dynamic squad. She was also a key element to the great success she and her Lakeville North teammates had during the 2019 high school season. Her preparation to engage her footwork and platform is great. She is dialed in on the opponent and consistently makes good reads to pursue the ball with angles that put her setter and offense in a good position. She is skilled in both areas of serve receive and defense, which are accompanied by good communication among her teammates.
Brier Ziemer – 5’6 |
Vital Volleyball
17-1 Gold
Recognized as a Metro West all-conference honoree, Ziemer played a key role as the primary libero for a good Chaska team. She is very intentional and engaged in her role defensively and maintains good connection to the court and her teammates through the flow of the point. Her eye work helps her make the right adjustments and her movement is balanced so she can pursue the ball in any direction coming off the opponent’s arm. She has good control of the ball with her platform work, playing the ball with overhead range as well as in scramble situations.
