With the release of the updated class of ‘27 rankings, we now move on to the individuals that set themselves apart in those rankings. Today's edition talks about the new (to us) additions to the rankings themselves. Here are five athletes from five different clubs that have burst onto the scene in more ways than one.

Playing mostly right back for KiVA's 16 Red squad this past spring, Dannah is a matter-of-fact, no doubt DS that turned an outstanding club season into a commitment from Missouri Valley member Indiana State. Her ability to receive serve consistently, defend hard-driven shots exceptionally and find ways to turn the second contact into a hittable ball for her pin hitters is one of the best collection of skills I've seen out of a defender in any class.

Quick and deliberate, Braelynn is one of the most athletic setters in any class, full stop. Starting with her feet, which are fast to the target, she can get to any ball because of them. Her body positioning while setting is in control, no matter how contorted she has to get for a tight pass or if she wants to “reverse the flow”. Her hands take the ball in the same spot over and over again, making her one of the more deceptive setters in this class as well. On multiple occasions against open-level teams, I saw Braelynn completely fool blockers to the point of her attackers hitting on an open net. That doesn't happen much at all, and your setter has to be the person of interest when that happens.

Burris, and subsequently Munciana, are well-known nationwide about their passing and ball control abilities. It's not often that they get a home-grown middle that can jump higher than most middles in this class. Ja'Maria is a highly athletic M2 who can get her head and shoulders over the net and wait a while to pick her angle of attack. That might sound like hyperbole, but she looks like she hangs in the air while attacking, making her abilities stand out that much more. Length is not an issue for the 5'10” product, as she can also cover pin to pin with ease. Burris is on our watch list for state title contention, and a lot of their offensive abilities will come straight from Miss Jackson.

Although used as a full-time six-rotation outside for Shakamak, her future lies in her ability to pass and defend. With quick feet and a calm platform, Brylee is one of the better small school passers in this class by having a first-step quickness that is second to very few. I like her decision making on the court—-rarely is she out of control or making an unforced error, which makes sense considering how much of a factor she is in her team's successes. She can also attack in a pinch; I would not be surprised if she played a little outdoor ball in her spare time, as her attacking looks the part of an outdoor player.

An up and coming attacker from Southwood, Hali recently attended our Stock Up Showcase a couple of weeks ago and made her presence felt. Explosive on her jump and attack, Hali regularly ended drills and points with her ability to terminate. On defense, she's adept at the net and reads hitters well, while also reading and reacting better than most outside attackers in attendance. Southwood is known for having their first SEC recruit in volleyball EVER, but Hali will definitely keep opposing defenses honest with her abilities, making her high school one of the dark horses to win the 2A title this fall.
