One of my favorite elements of her development right now is her continued progress and refinement on defense. She has strong, natural instincts on defense, and her ability to read hitters continues to improve. She’s making more consistent, quality reads in the seam, which is helping her play with better control and confidence.

While she is still trying to find consistency in her timing and continuing to refine her range, Maia’s physicality, explosiveness, and competitive presence give her a high ceiling and make her a constant offensive threat.

Maia has a deeper approach that creates a lot of momentum and power into her last two steps. Her athleticism and speed translate over when she’s playing defense as she has no problem chasing down balls to corners, laying out, or getting under balls on defense.

Her versatility this year for the Mustangs showcased her athleticism and confidence at the net to score from both pins. She is a high-flyer who can score with ease over a block and take some heavy rips at the ball. Her fluidity, athleticism, and talent make her a solid attacker whose ability and skill will only continue to grow.

A high flyer and must-watch pin. Maia Schwalger is fluid, yet aggressive on the court. She elevates extremely well and has a high contact point paired with a fast arm swing. Schwalger finds kills from her sheer ability to hit over blockers, but also shows good range from hard down the line to deep 5/6 corner kills. Only a sophomore, but she proves that she is going to be an unstoppable force for the Chargers the next two years.
