CORALVILLE - Day 1 of the state volleyball tournament wrapped up Monday night with a pair of matches in Class 4A. Pella and North Scott advanced to the semifinals with four-set wins.

North Scott finished up its competition first. The [program_tooltip program_id='431978' first='Lancers' last=''] eked out a 27-25, first set win against Dallas Center-Grimes before dropping the second, 25-17. They recovered for a 25-16 victory in the third set and finished the match off with a 25-23 triumph in the fourth.

The Mustangs were the higher seed, a four to North Scott's five. The teams competed as closely as their seeds throughout the first set. It looked like DCG had it at one point before the [program_tooltip program_id='431978' first='Lancers' last=''] rallied.

To the Mustangs' credit, they bounced back in Set 2. Likewise, North Scott picked itself up after losing the second set with a decisive victory in the third. A tight fourth set again tipped slightly in the [program_tooltip program_id='431978' first='Lancers' last='']' direction.

This felt like one of those matchups where the teams would go seven games if if were a series. That's how evenly matched they were.
