About Kendal
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
Having taken private lessons since third grade, I have a high volleyball IQ. I come into each game understanding my role, our offense, and defense. I can adapt quickly to coaches' feedback and help other teammates if needed. I love fast-paced, competitive volleyball. Hitting is my favorite, but no one can hit without a great pass so l also take a lot of pride in my passing (and serving).
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I am quiet off the court (although I make a lot of jokes and have a perma-grin) but on the court l'm the loudest one and always talking. My coaches tell me l'm a great teammate and very coach-able. I try to lift up my team & love making up new celebration moves! I am extremely competitive and want to win every point, but I try to always stay loose and have fun because that's when I play mv best.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
Midwest Volleyball Power (SD) - top team 11U and 12U. During our 12U season we won 5th place at Nationals in Orlando, FL. I was a six-rotation player for Siouxland Sports Academy my 13U club season. I’ll be playing my 14U club season for Kairo’s regional in Sioux Falls, SD. My competitive dance team has won several awards. I also play softball, run track, & am class rep. for student council.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I’ve learned how to be a leader and a goood teammate through 4 years of club volleyball, 2 years of middle school volleyball, & club teams from third grade to date. Having been on a competitive dance team for years, teamwork is very important. Leadership and teamwork skills are also necessary during my softball & track seasons. For community service, I help Siouxland Humane Society and my church.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
I wouldn't say “significant” when you compare it to kids who have little to eat, have cancer, or other really hard challenges. I'm very blessed so far. But from a volleyball standpoint, I did have some parents doubt my ability during a particular season. I used that as fuel and worked my butt off, and it paid off.
What type of college are you looking for?
I'm looking for a college in the Midwest because I feel most comfortable here. I want the college to be one that is strong academically and offers a lot of variety to get involved so I can develop as a well-rounded person. My goal is to play DIl or DI, but ultimately, the feeling I get from the college will be the main thing l'll be looking for.
