The initial class of 2028 Rankings for Washington included 75 players ranked and roughly another 60 on the Watch List. This January 2026 update includes 120 players ranked and another 60 or so on the Watch List. The Watch List is an important tool we use as we find and/or write up a new prospect. It keeps players top of mind and set to go from our end if they move into the rankings on an update. Most of the players added to the rankings were on the Watch List at some point.

This update follows the sophomore season of varsity play for these athletes. Not everyone on this list has had their moment on the court during the fall- sometimes a high school program is stacked with excellent upperclassmen and prospects, even at the top of these rankings, players may have to wait their turn. We understand that players will be added or move up each update on the list. Washington is an interesting state to rank, with players from Southern Washington playing on Oregon clubs and the CEVA Region, and Eastern Washington prospects mixing in with Idaho clubs at times in the Evergreen Region. Competition-wise, it's the best possible situation for clubs to attract talented players from afar, giving teams the best chance to compete at a national level.

The Top Six in this update are from several different clubs and locations across the state:

The PNQ in Spokane will be a great chance to watch some head-to-head battles between teams that have players not just high in the rankings but spread throughout. In the 16 Open Division, Sudden Impact, CPA, NPJ Salem, and Athena will be part of the action. If we look at the top 20 players in the rankings, 17 of the 20 will be on hand at the Pacific Northwest Qualifier.

The 16 USA Division is even more stocked with terrific Washington teams and players. Dakine 16 National, NPJ Seattle and NPJ Portland National teams, PSVBA, WVBA, Mode, Blue Royals, NCWVBC, and others will be in the 32-team division. The Liberty and American at PNQ are loaded with terrific teams and players from Washington and the PNW.

The Emerald City Classic is another way to see all these 2028 players and teams battle head-to-head, just before they head off for Nationals or AAU. Many a Memorial Day Weekend has been spent in the gym by Washington players battling for the Gold Ball Trophy.

Millenaar is poised to have a breakout club season with Spaceneedle. She is all of her listed 6'2" height and moves well in transition and laterally to close the block. Millenaar jams down overpasses with confidence and is aggressive at the net on the block. The Stanwood prospect moves into the rankings at #41 overall, and will be one to watch as the rankings updates roll out.

Bernarding is a punishing attacker with a heavy arm, and she isn't afraid to attack high hands or the edges of the block. The Ballard prospect is now ranked #20 among OHs. She is playing a six-rotation role with WVBA 16 Molten. It should benefit her game to play all the way around, and teams have already tried to test her in serve receive without much success. Bernarding has a strong platform and looks comfortable reading and digging out of the middle back.

Turrell is an outstanding multi-sport athlete, starting at guard for Sehome's basketball team after helping set the team to state in volleyball. Turrell was dynamite finding her talented attackers, averaging over 9 assists per set and playing gritty defense out of the setter spot. She is an excellent player in both sports, averaging double figures in basketball this season and last in her freshman campaign.

Prynne is part of an excellent Athena 16 Gold squad; the Washougal prospect lands as the #56 player overall in the rankings update. With the versatility to attack from both pins, Prynne uses her length and heavy swing to score down the line and hard off the block. She was named to the 2A GSHL All League 2nd Team for her play during the high school season.

Coaches will be fired up to see the lefty setter play for Dakine; Pasi has strong hands and good location on her sets. She is not afraid to swing on a ball when a set is tight. The 2028 prospect has a great feel on the court and she is currently 60th overall in the rankings. . Central Kitsap has a very good group of setters in their high school gym- Pasi looks ready for a breakout club season.

Prep Dig lays it all out in this expansive rankings guide: https://prepdig.com/how-we-rank/.

Three of the most important items listed are: 1. Rankings are based on a player's college potential. 2. Size, explosiveness, and athleticism matter. 3. Players move up in the rankings, and that move up drops other players.

Our scouts track between 175 and 250 players in each class, in each state we cover. We understand that players will inevitably slip through without coverage or be undercovered. We try to keep the updates frequent so we can find and cover as many athletes as possible. Updates come out two or three times per year.
