Five Names to Know after JVA World Challenge Day One

Tough digs, amazing sets and powerful swings led to a lot of exciting action. Pumphrey takes great hitting angles using her size and creates the necessary spacing from the net to send across off shots. She goes up hard on double and solo blocks making hitters go over and around her, thus slowing things down for the defensive specialists. Pumphrey agreed she's trying to be more consistent on the softer shots. Jeffreys makes the simple first touches to jumpstart the offense. Jeffreys hustles hard after balls, which often lead to crucial points. Jeffreys made a lot of things happen with her tough serves. Jeffreys locates her serves to different parts of the court. Messenger reached out her hand and hit a ball over the net with her off (left) hand in a game for a huge point for 16-1 Elite. Messenger is a sound blocker on both solo and double blocks. Barksdale makes good adjustments in the air trying to shove balls away from defensive specialists. Barksdale has also found more bit on her serves. Barksdale makes a lot of things happen when the team is in system. Harvey mainly played right side hitter for CAL, but has worked on developing as a setter for 16 Select. Harvey makes the most of out of system balls to make sure her teammates can take quality swings. Harvey is not afraid to tap balls behind her for deceptive setter dumps.
