Pumphrey (pictured) has developed an aggressive mindset in the front row and uses it to control the net both offensively and defensively. Pumphrey takes great hitting angles using her size and creates the necessary spacing from the net to send across off shots. She goes up hard on double and solo blocks making hitters go over and around her, thus slowing things down for the defensive specialists. Pumphrey agreed she’s trying to be more consistent on the softer shots. She added she’s been working on the little things that make a difference in games.

Pumphrey’s net play helped the Cardinals drive to the 10th Region championship for the first time in program history this past season. She takes back set ones and sends them to different parts of the court. She can also tip to the shallow middle of the court. Pumphrey is a great one-on-one blocker. Pumphrey also creates points with her aggressive serving.

Pumphrey’s play in the middle helped the Cardinals go on the deepest run in program history. She has a great technique on her blocking and it helped her stuff solid hitters throughout the season. Pumphrey makes a lot of things happen on ones. She can pound them hard to the back row or off blockers. When defensive specialists back up, Pumphrey lets up and tips balls over blockers to shallow parts of the court. Pumphrey had 113 kills, 20 solo blocks and 36 assisted blocks for the Cardinals this past fall.
