SLC Showdown Week II Showcase Top Performers Vol 2

Prep Dig continued its partnership with USA Volleyball at the Salt Lake City National Qualifier Showcase, held at the Salt Palace Convention Center on April 30th. This is the second session held in conjunction with the second weekend of the tournament. The event brought together athletes from across the nation looking to compete in front of college coaches while being evaluated by Prep Dig scouts and court coaches. Showcases like this continue to provide a valuable platform for athletes to be seen, tested, and recognized for their individual performance and intangibles. Let's take a closer look at three players who earned Top Performer honors based on what they showed on the court.    [player_tooltip player_id='921925' first='McKenna' last='Mallard'], a Class of 2029 middle blocker from Mica Mountain High School in Tucson and [program_tooltip program_id='429298' first='Zona' last='Volleyball Club'], is currently listed on the official Prep Dig Arizona State Watch List. Miss Mallard brings a physical profile to the middle position that college programs at every level actively recruit. Her blocking footwork and net engagement show a player who has invested in the technical foundation of the position rather than waiting for her frame to do the work for her, and that kind of deliberate development at this age is exactly what separates prospects who plateau from ones who keep climbing. She moves through the system with intent and stays connected to the rally rather than treating the middle as a one-dimensional role, which is a maturity indicator that shows up clearly on film. McKenna is a watch-list middle with real upside and all programs should be putting her name on their short list of athletes to watch for the next few years. At her age, it is refreshing to see such athleticism and potential. Every court coach who watched her at the showcase nominated her for this award and we agree 100%. Please help us congratulate her on earning Top Performer honors at this showcase event.     Dakota plays at Andrews Osborne Academy in Willoughby, Ohio and MAQ Volleyball Club. Miss Royer is a player who attacks from the right pin with an aggression and intent that tells you she is not just filling a roster spot but competing to be the player her team runs the offense through in critical moments. Her net presence on the right side is active and engaged rather than passive, and the blocking instincts she brings to that position show a player who understands the full responsibility of playing opposite in a system rather than simply showing up to swing. Dakota is able to play on both sides of the court and can add a lot of firepower to any team who gives her a chance. We loved her attitude when playing during the showcase amongst players from all over the nation. She was always in good spirits and competed at a very high level no matter the circumstance. Johanna Lawler is a stud that all college coaches need to be looking at now even as only a freshman. This class of 2029 middle blocker from Hilmar High School and Rage Volleyball Club, is one of the most physically striking prospects in her entire class nationally and the film makes a convincing case that the skill set is developing at the same rate as the frame. Standing at 6'4" as a freshman, she has already established herself as a known name in Northern California volleyball circles, serving as a key contributor on a Hilmar program that won back-to-back NorCal regional championships and competed in the CIF State Division V tournament. The contact point she creates at the net is genuinely unlike anything most hitters she faces have ever had to deal with, and she has already shown the ability to move her attacks to multiple areas of the court rather than simply trusting her height to do the damage for her. Miss Lawler is one of the more exciting young prospects in the country and the programs that get to her early are going to feel very good about that decision.
