About Abigale
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
I put an emphasis on making my hitters look good rather than myself. I focus on giving my hitters what they want and not what I want them to hit. While I do like to run a quicker offense I can also slow things down while still keeping quality sets. I am semi-offensive setter; mainly when I feel all my hitters need a break, I tend to mainly set my hitters but I will dump sometimes.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I live by the quote "In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity" meaning I always try to find something positive I can gain from a negative situation in order to improve myself as a player and as a person/teammate. I believe that playing time is earned and I typically aim for 2 extra 1 hour practices a week, sometimes more. I am a very hard worker while still having fun on the court.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
I am in the AVID program at my high school.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I actively participate in community service; Beach Clean ups, volunteering at shelters, coaching younger girls (in supervision of a coach). I have been told by several of my coaches previously that I encompass a natural leadership role on teams; coaches have told my parents that I am "the coach on the floor" and my teammates tend to listen to me.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
Injuries; Shoulder, Hamstring, Ankle. All have since been healed and improved.
Mental Health; Coaches and teammates which negatively affected my mental stability. I have since learned to put myself first in these situations and now how my mental health will be taken into account on a team is one of the top things I consider.
What type of college are you looking for?
I am looking for a college that will allow me to have time to build my resume; a program that balances both school and athletics evenly. I am not a huge fan of going out and partying so social life of the campus is not that significant to me. I am looking for a college which will allow me to compete at a level which I can thrive at without destroying my mental health and body.
