About Alyssandra

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

As a Video Production student at my High School, I have received a "cord award" for my leadership contributions in the course. I recently participated in a 15 week internship with KCEP-FM where I learned different aspects of live radio from board operations to hosting a live segment on mental health issues impacting teens today. I also serve regularly with my church in the children's ministry.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Volunteering with my team last year has opened my heart to serve children with special needs in my community and my church. I am continuously working on being a coachable athlete, consistent teammate, and supportive leader. Each year I set a personal goal to learn each teammate and how to effectively communicate with them.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

As a military family, we moved a lot. At 8 years old I began to experience anxiety. I have since learned how to create my own stability and prioritize my own health and well-being. Being more confident in myself allows me to be a great teammate and leader to those around me. I have found best practices and mechanisms that help me stay calm and be the best version of myself.

What type of college are you looking for?

I believe a smaller size campus, public or private, would allow me to achieve the best academic success. My ideal school would offer volunteer opportunities for students to serve and give back to the local community, supports student athletes mental well-being, offer experiences that allow students to engage with other peers in a safe environment.
