Guilherme Torres | Prep Dig Scout
The senior outside hitter led Dawson’s offense with a steady and productive performance. Koonsen was the team’s go-to scoring option, getting many sets both at the pin and the middle back position, and managed to put the ball down at a consistent rate throughout the match while also making very few errors. She was the one who decided set two, the only one in which the Eagles were truly under pressure, and did a great job of using her vision to find ways around Seven Lakes’ tall blockers during the entire match. Koonsen also handled her serve-receive responsibilities well and showed great positioning on the back row when playing defense.

Avery is currently ranked as the 122nd best overall prospect in the 2026 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings. She plays volleyball at Pearland High School and plays club for the Houston Stellar volleyball program. Over the past few years, Miss Koonsen has proved that she can be super consistent at a very high level in all aspects of the game. After watching her in this tournament, it is clear as day that she will be moving up in the rankings when I update them. What stood out to me is how comfortable she is in serve receive. There were many times where she and her libero would basically be splitting the court and passing with two players only. For a coach to pass with only two players at this big of a tournament, they must really trust the passing ability of those players. Her long frame and great vision is matched with some amazing ball control with her platform to deliver perfect passes to her setter. As an attacker, she was equally impressive at the net. Numerous times, she had to adjust her footwork to the ball in out of system plays and be able to alter her shot in order to score. This was no issue for her at all and she was still able to aggressively attack the ball to put pressure on the opposition. Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award from us for her play during the tournament.

Koonsen is coming from an excellent high school season, in which she led the offense of her team Pearland while also contributing in a strong way with her passing and defense. Although not extremely tall, she’s very powerful and aggressive on offense, getting off the floor extremely well and not backing off in front of any blockers. Koonsen also sees the game very well up at the net and makes good selections with her shots – she is very quick when snapping the ball to the line. The pin hitter also adds a lot with her blocking, moving very well laterally and getting her hands above the net in no time.
