The senior defensive specialist was of great importance for Dawson, adding a lot to their back row efforts. Tijerina came in to replace outside hitter Sloane Ranney Sloane Ranney 5'9" | OH Glenda Dawson | 2026 TX and did a great job of splitting the defensive duties with Thedford. Together, they ensured passing was always accurate, giving the team every possibility on offense, while also making good plays on defense. Like most of her teammates, Tijerina also served very well, consistently getting the Spartans out of system.

Tijerina and her AVA TX 16 Adidas were the division winners, having won all their three matches on Saturday. She split the libero duties with Haley Patton Haley Patton 5'7" | DS/L Friendswood | 2026 TX and the two made of the team’s backcourt the strongest of the event. An extremely technical player, Tijerina was very solid with her passing and her ability to give the ball to the setter, keeping the team in system. The libero also worked very hard on the backcourt, recovering some balls after shanked passes of her teammates, and had some good serving runs.

Tijerina was one of the several promising liberos I saw emerging in the class of 2026 during the last club season – she was with Houston Stellar and will now move to AVA. Very calm on the ball, she was extremely reliable with her passing and defense every time I got to see her in action. Although her ball control is excellent, much of Tijerina’s efficiency of the court comes from her strong mental skills as she reads the game very well and is always on great spots to make plays. She also brings a lot to table with things that typically go under-the-radar, such as covering her hitters and setting in transition.

Tijerina will play a big role on the backcourt of HOU Stellar 15 Elite in the Power Pool of the 15s division. Her game is very efficient and consistent, two words every coach loves to hear about their liberos. Her excellent reading of the game and position make her job easier on the backcourt, but Tijerena complements it very well with outstanding ball control and a very strong focus. A solid passer too, the libero contributes in other areas of the game as well, recovering balls when covering her hitters and setting well in transition when she needs to.
