The senior setter was a great leader for the Lady Bobcats and thrived with an intelligent execution of the team’s game plan. Byerly noticed early on that Muoneke was poised to have a strong night and concentrated the team’s offense on her, making the most of her best weapon, but she always kept the other hitters involved. Very crafty, she also had some success by setting the ball over in the second or even the first contact when she had a chance, catching Ridge Point off guard. Byerly stepped up with two massive blocks at the start of set five that allowed Cy-Fair to create some separation in a critical moment of the match. She also played very good defense.

Cy-Fair’s senior setter did a very good job running the team’s offense. She remained consistent with her locations during the entire match and was reliable and effective with her ball distribution. Byerly also displayed some good creativity by moving her hitters around to make things harder for Langham Creek’s blockers when working with free balls. She tried quite a few setter dumps and scored on a few of them, but got the Lobos out of system in nearly all of them. Byerly also made big plays on defense, generating transition opportunities for her team.

HJV 18 Elite has a handful of talented defensive players who could be picked to serve as the team’s libero but it was Byerly, who’s playing one age group up, who got the call. It should actually be no surprise, considering how talented and hard-working she has proven to be, reuniting two important traits for a player in the position. Besides having excellent ball control, Byerly is also very smart with her movement, which allows her to cover a lot of ground on the backcourt. Thrown in the added bonus that she’s a setter at the high school level and can send the ball wherever she wants in transition and you have the ideal libero.
