Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
We’re always eager to discuss more setter-hitter hybrids, and Nelsen fits the bill. She exhibited her varied skill set right away when she competed in the state tournament as a Fremont freshman. When Nelsen joined the Millard North roster, she brought her familiar brand of physical, aggressive play. Her setting numbers took off this fall, culminating in one of the best assist-per-set averages in Class A. Nelsen’s upward climb gave us a lot to be thankful for in the past few years.

Nelsen has been a do-everything athlete for Nebraska Elite 17 Koa. Her smooth setting has generated headlines throughout her prep career, but Nelsen brings a lot more than that to the Nebraska Elite gym. She got plenty of reps as a frontcourt opposite throughout 2024 and was even in the passing pattern for many of those rotations. Nelsen also thrived as a floor defender and was quick to react to hard-driven balls. An important senior season is on deck.

Nelsen made the move to Nebraska Elite 17 Koa this year and is making an immediate impact with this talented squad. We knew about Nelsen’s precise setting and distribution, but that’s not the only thing she’s bringing to her new squad. 17 Koa has also deployed Nelsen as a frontcourt opposite at several 2024 events, where she gets to show her prowess as a pin attacker. No matter the role, Nelsen is already elevating her Nebraska Elite squad to new heights.

We’re starting with one of Nebraska’s most persistent stock risers in the Class of 2025. Nelsen has been a force on the Nebraska prep scene for a while, going all the way back to her freshman debut with Fremont. The talented junior setter has now taken the reins at Millard North, where she put up 8.4 assists per set and helped the Mustangs gain some traction in the Class A race. Nelsen can now boost her stock further with another standout club campaign in the Premier Nebraska gym.

Not only has Nelsen had some team changes throughout her prep career, but positional flexibility has also been an ongoing storyline. She’s a classic setter-opposite who can do both at a high level. This year’s tenure with Premier 17 Red has put Nelsen’s smooth setting in focus, but don’t discount her ability to shoulder an attacking role this fall.

Nelsen has been a must-see athlete this year after she became a new addition to the Premier Nebraska gym. She’s still playing up an age group, so nothing has changed there. The Millard North standout has such a stellar command of the setter spot and can push the ball against the grain with great accuracy. Those skills will rise to the forefront as 17 Red competes in late-season venues this spring.

Nelsen’s move to Premier Nebraska has been a fruitful one. We’ve seen the Millard North standout set and hit throughout her prep career, and her setting has particularly flourished with Premier 17 Red. Nebraska only has a small group of 2025s playing up an age group this year, but we’re certainly not short of quality with players like Nelsen representing the “overachievers.”

Here’s a completely new addition to the Premier Nebraska fray. Nelsen was a big contributor in the Nebraska Juniors gym for several years, but she is joining the aforementioned 17 Red squad alongside Eggiman.
