About Charley
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
My Pre-Game Routine is very simple. I will listen to my slow music to calm myself and visualize certain scenerios in my head and what my coaches have told me in practices and privates. When I am on the court, I try to set my team up in the best position I can. No matter if I am setting or hitting.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
When on the court, I try my best to maintain a positive mindset. I believe mental strength, emotional control, and optimism translates onto successful plays on the court and that energy spreads within the team. Off the court, I’m a very silly and happy person. Whether it is with my family or friends, I always strive to be myself.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
In 7th grade, I was selected to be a part of ASB (Associated Student Body). In 8th grade, I was selected to become a WEB Leader (Where Everybody Belongs). I have maintained a 4.0 GPA since Kindergarten, with the exception of the 4th grade, where I received 1 B. I also did the speech for my 6th grade promotion, and qualified top 4 for our Principals Award.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I have developed public speaking skills, along with thinking on my feet, and leading a group of kids. I have also learned how to assemble, research, and host my own events. I have done community service by helping at the library, my teachers, cleaning up at the park, and helping run local events.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
I joined a club at 12yo and made a National team. I found my passion in volleyball and realized I needed to change clubs if I wanted to strengthen my skills and play at a higher level of competition. Although I enjoyed my first team, I made the hard decision to tryout at another club and accepted being on a lower team. It was a sacrifice at the time, but I’m now on a 2s team, working my way to 1s.
What type of college are you looking for?
I am looking for a college with both a good volleyball and entrepreneurial program. My dream job when I grow up is to own my own business. If I find a college with a good balance between both, that would be perfect. I am also looking for a school that is willing to offer a scholorship in sports and academics.
