About Danielle
Expert Analysis
Chris Fitzgerald | Prep Dig Scout
Plans have changed for Penn State a little bit this past year. Danielle Whitmire out of the Dallas area, staring for for one of top clubs in the country can immediately make an impact at setter for the Nittany Lions. As one of the top setters in Class of 2026, Whitmire has athleticism, physicality, and these intangibles that are just different when it comes to being a floor general. Watching her on the top open courts at the 17s level last year she had the other side of the net off balanced from the start. She remains neutral in her ability to jump set all tempos and find the favorable match up. She defends her position well at the front and backrow and can be offensive when called upon. This Class of 2026 crew that Penn State has coming in can create an immediate impact.

Another Penn State commit who has been having quite the club season is Danielle Whitmire who has been a star for TAV 17 Black Jon. The setter/right side combo player has been key for her team where they took home the title at Triple Crown and claimed their 17 Open bid by going 10-0. What is special about Whitmire is her ability to win – she just gets it done. Teams have to be so disciplined defending her with the ability to jump set and swing or jump set to one of her attackers. As an attacker and setter combo type player, she is such a weapon for her team. She will be next in line as a setter behind Freshman of the Year Izzy Starck at Penn State.

, TAV played a 6-2 system and the two setters did an excellent job of keeping their offense flowing. Whitmire thrived with her decision-making when setting and was extremely precise with her locations. Offensively, she used her impressive length and firepower to get the job done, scoring many points for the team. The setter also served very well and added a few digs.

Whitmire plays for Walnut Grove high school and TAV 16 Black at the club level and was ranked first among the setters and as the second overall prospect in her age group. She made a big leap in the last update and that makes justice to her game, which has no apparent holes and a lot to like. Whitmire is among the tallest setters in her age group, but that doesn’t affect her mobility at all. Her playmaking is also elite, thanks to her smooth release, her intelligent distribution and her ability to connect with every hitter seamlessly. She also has a very strong offensive game and is capable of playing a major offensive role on the right as well.

The third-best setter in the state according to our Class of 2026 Prep Dig State Rankings, Whitmire will be setting for TAV 15 Black. She’s a unicorn of sorts when you consider the fact that very rarely a setter of her age is as ready and developed as she is. Whitmire has a very sound technical game, which shows every time she gets on the ball. Her release is very clean and precise and the fact that her movement is always the same makes it harder for opposing blockers to figure out what she’s going to do. The setter is also a physical player, standing at 6’1″, and is very calm and focused when on the court.
