Seeing Ella Subbert Ella Subbert MH IA run a slide for PowerPlex 16 Nelson was a definite “Whoa” in the notes app.  She is a 6’2 middle blocker with a 10’3 touch via her Twitter profile and is also a basketball prospect. She’s played club basketball for the prestigious All Iowa Attack, but if she wants there is a bright future for her in volleyball.  The athleticism is obvious, she moves extremely well laterally and is very physical at the net.  She is another one of those athletes where the more she plays, the more she will improve.  There is a bright future for her whatever she decides to pursue at the next level. 

We had a full array of Iowa PowerPlex gems competing in their home gym at Sunday’s event. Subbert used these friendly confines to flex her power and imposing frame in the middle. She formed cohesive connections with whichever setter she was paired with, producing floor-denting kills in multiple frontcourt gaps. It’s no surprise this sophomore accumulated a team-leading block total with ADM this fall, along with the team’s top hitting percentage among starting attackers.

There is a length and physicality to Ella Subbert Ella Subbert 6'2" | MB/RS ADM | 2028 State IA that is really dangerous for her opponents.  She has quite a wingspan as a middle blocker and knows how to use her hands really well when it comes to turning a block into the court.  When PowerPlex can be in system, she had some “Whoa” plays where she finds the deep corner and isn’t afraid to take a big swing.  She is real dynamic where she can be utilized in multiple ways in the front row.
