DaKine put together a magical run of a season at the 16’s level, and Smith was one of two setters running the offense in their 6-2 system. Smith was all over the floor defensively, covering her hitters and saving points by popping up passes that should have hit the floor. She is terrific at disguising sets to her RS and middles; her calm, consistent setup earned “one-ups” and empty nets. Smith can play the front row, and can score as RS or straight from a front row setter spot.

Smith has taken it to another level with Dakine this club season; she works in outstanding unison with her attackers, and the Dakine 16 Surf team captured the Region Championship and a “third bid” to Nationals. Her serve is just plain nasty, knocking teams out of the flow and giving Dakine easy free and down balls to create and score offensively. Smith is doing the most essential part of her job exceptionally well – delivering a hittable ball for her teammates to terminate.

Dakine 16 Surf only lost one match at the NW Juniors Presidents Day tournament, a tight two-set loss to PSVBA 18 Legacy. Smith is running an up-tempo offense and finding her attackers one-up opportunities. She has quick feet and stays dynamic, utilizing a well-controlled jump set to speed up the offense. Smith was defensively picking up tips and hard swings; she was outstanding throughout the tournament.

Smith quarterbacked Dakine all the way through the tournament, showing off good location and hands out of the setter spot. Smith is terrific at getting to the second the ball, gathering herself and delivering a hittable ball to her attackers. It was a great matchup in the finals between Dakine and PJVBC, and not surprisingly, Smith and opposing setter
