About Ellie

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a crafty six rotation pin that can also play DS/L. I have a quick approach and a heavy/fast arm swing but can also read defenses well while in the air and roll/tip to open areas. I typically play middle back on defense and can cover sideline to sideline due to a quick step and ability to pick up on hitter tendencies. Lastly, I communicate well on the court and a natural leader.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I won’t be the tallest player nor the flashiest, but I will outhustle, outsmart, outwork, and outcheer anyone on the court. I will fail, I will learn, I will compete, I will lead on the court and in the classroom, and will be a great representative for your program.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I played on the top All Iowa Attack basketball team from 5th-8th grade and currently play on a local All Iowa Attack team to focus on volleyball. At school, I volunteer in helping my peers in our school's Adaptive Physical Education class. I was awarded the John R Hughes Community award chosen by school faculty and staff based on leadership abilities and community involvement.​

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I am a servant leader and that comes from my upbringing. My parents have instilled in me and my siblings that we must leave the world in a better place and that starts with treating people fairly and seeking out those who need help.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

When I was younger, I had a lazy eye and had to wear a patch for a little over a year. It wasn't easy wearing a patch to school and in public but was determined to fix my eye as quickly as possible. My doctor was amazing and has inspired me to become a pediatric ophthalmologist.

What type of college are you looking for?

Most importantly, I am looking for a volleyball program that supports the entire student-athlete experience on and off the court, has a culture of winning, and a positive vibe in the locker room. I am looking for a college in an urban or suburban location similar to Iowa City, where I live now.

If anyone is looking for a good example on how to curate highlights, the search should include a stop at Wilson’s page. Breaking them up into tournaments, months and seasons works really well. Also, on her page, you can watch one of the most consistently good performers in Iowa’s 2027 Class. Wilson has worked hard through the years to sharpen all parts of her game, and it’s made her one of the most complete contributors around. She’s been attacking from the pin with a strong vertical leap and a powerful swing for some time now. Wilson has made her biggest leaps in defending in the back row. A good athlete with lateral quickness, she complements those natural gifts by reading the ball well and being technically sound.
