Evelyn Anderson was thinking about her teammates before she was thinking about herself at UA Next. She took on the job of directing players she’d never shared a court with, calling out attacking spots and serving zones with enough confidence that her hustle and defensive effort became just as noticeable as her voice. That instinct, making sure everyone around her knows where they need to be, connects directly to what she says the camp clarified for her: that competing at a higher level isn’t only about individual skill, it’s about lifting the players next to you.
On the technical side, her serve receive has taken a real step forward this season. A coaching cue to open up her body when a serve comes at her chest has changed how she handles chaotic, fast-arriving balls, and it shows in her passing now, more control, more accuracy, more balls landing on target even when the situation isn’t clean. Heading into high school, she’s pointing herself at two things that tend to grow together, getting more aggressive as an attacker and sharpening her footwork into the ball, while continuing to build the consistency that turns a promising game into a trusted one.

Evelyn Anderson wants to be useful in every rotation, and her answers reflect that: she talks about defensive reads that keep rallies alive with the same enthusiasm she talks about closing points with a big swing or a block. Serve receive has become a stated priority for her because she understands that a great pass is what gives an offense its options, and she’s actively expanding her shot selection with tips, roll shots, and better court vision so she isn’t just a power hitter.
Her team played five three-set matches out of nine at Nationals, a tournament that demanded a lot physically and rewarded the teams that could sustain their level deep into matches, and Evelyn points to that stretch as proof of how far her conditioning and composure have come.
Away from the court, she was a counselor for fifth graders at church camp this summer and served as a yearbook editor at school, leading a team of students through real deadlines. She’s headed to Stanford’s team camp and a UC Davis ID camp that carries family significance, both of her parents went there, ahead of a freshman year where her goal is a varsity starting spot.

Evelyn Anderson already understands something many athletes take years to fully learn, pressure usually reveals who can stay steady when everything around them speeds up.
During a tight third set that extended into extra points, the opposing team repeatedly targeted her in serve receive, knowing the pressure was building with every rally. Instead of tightening up, Evelyn focused on resetting before every serve, slowing her breathing, and locking back into the next ball. Those controlled moments helped her deliver key passes that kept her team in system and emotionally connected when the match mattered most.
That type of composure stands out at any age.
Her growth this season has centered around leadership just as much as volleyball. Confidence, communication, and learning how to stay positive under stress are all becoming more natural parts of her game, and it is showing up in how teammates respond to her during difficult moments.
What also stands out is how balanced her approach already feels. Honors classes, volleyball, leadership responsibilities, and high-level competition are all part of her daily routine, yet she continues talking about discipline, dependability, and being someone teammates can count on first.
With a National Division bid already secured for USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship, plus the NIT Tournament in Mesa, the Under Armour Next Camp, and a summer camp at Stanford University still ahead, Evelyn feels like a young athlete already learning how to lead, compete, and stay composed in bigger moments.

is already bringing both. The 2030 outside hitter describes herself as athletic, competitive, and high-IQ, and her responses backed that up. Whether she is taking a big swing in transition or mixing in tips and placement late in a rally, there is intentionality behind what she is doing. Film study, detail work, and a willingness to evolve beyond pure power are already becoming part of her offensive identity.
What separated Anderson’s responses was how often composure showed up. When momentum shifts, she talks about controlling effort, mindset, and decisions instead of chasing points. She communicates, stays positive, and continues finding ways to impact the match even when she is not the one scoring. Add in AP coursework, volunteer work, and a clear understanding of the type of school she wants, and this feels like an athlete who understands both development and fit.
