About Hazel

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I'm a 5'10" lefty Setter/Opposite who loves running down anything playable. I also love playing on high energy and gritty teams, and am hoping to continue doing so in college.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Volleyball has brought out the more outgoing side in me. I think it's important to have confidence and an uplifting attitude as a leader.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I've been playing club volleyball since 12U and currently play for Iowa Rockets in a 6-2. I've run a 5-1 offense as the starting varsity setter for the Iowa City High Little Hawks, racking up 1,048 Assists, 139 Kills, 48 Blocks, and 364 Digs. I'm also a varsity bowler for the Little Hawks and compete in the high jump during track season.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I was named 2024 Mississippi Valley Honorable Mention All-Conference and 2024 Your Prep Sports Freshman of the Year after my freshman season at Iowa City High. I received Mississippi Valley Second-Team All-Conference honors in 2025. My time playing volleyball has taught me lessons as a leader, and I was nominated for "LeadHers," an organization at Iowa City High designed to uplift female athletes.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I sprained an ankle a week prior to high school season, and during high school season I sprained the opposite one. Spending time on the bench while my team played taught me how I can make an impact as a leader even when I'm not on the court.

Skilled setters make every showcase better. It’s a theme we’ve harped on a lot over the past few weeks, and Schluckebier embodied this ever-present truth at our Iowa Exposure Tour. She gets her feet to the ball no matter what pass she’s given. Then, Schluckebier delivers smooth sets to her pins and forces the middle with finesse. Athletes from Iowa City had a tough, snow-covered trek to our Des Moines outing, but Schluckebier made the most of her trek. We’re forever grateful for her determination and willingness to compete.
