Like there needed to be ANOTHER amazing passer at two-time defending champ Carroll, Jocelyn is the next one up when it comes to serve receive and defense. Longer than most defenders in Indiana, Jocelyn covers a bunch of ground in both serve receive and defense because of her long strides she takes to get to where the ball is. I mention length as Jocelyn’s main positive trait because there are so few in Indiana that have that ability to cover the amount of space she’s responsible for. And even the ones that have length that are defenders, they don’t use it like Miss Walborn does. Being placed up an age group with PHP’s 16s should be an excellent challenge for her—-making her that much more marketable for the next level by already being accustomed to high-end ball and pressure.

This is the third PHP kid playing up an age group that I’m mentioning, and for good reason. Jocelyn’s ability to control the floor with a special jersey on will show her immediate impact once January comes around. A state champion defender with Cala (listed above), Miss Walborn will be a pleasant surprise for not only this roster but for anyone looking for a Division-I-level libero. She’ll be a steal for anyone looking for accuracy, work ethic and relentless drive.

Solid, smooth, and immovable. Whether wearing the libero jersey and playing left back or playing middle back and dealing with constant read-and-react situations, Jocelyn comes from a championship pedigree and a high school program that expects nothing less. At Carroll, she’ll be needed for her entire career as THAT defender—-the one you plug in for three rotations to save the day and make plays that others just can’t. In club, however, Miss Walborn will be able to showcase her skill set at the highest level of open ball you can find, and bring her cool and calm confidence with her.

After an epic run with Empowered’s 15-1 squad last spring, Jocelyn makes the obvious jump to Pineapple High Performance, and up an age group at that. Fully capable of playing multiple defensive positions at a high level, Miss Walborn can receive serve, defend the hard-driven ball and chase down an off-speed shot equally well. Already in attendance at defending 4A state champ Carroll, she uses her length to her advantage, as she looks efficient in her footwork and movements.

Wow. ANOTHER high-end defender from Carroll? Sure enough, Jocelyn came to PLAY at our showcase. My first impression of her was actually a sound—how the ball sounded coming off of her hand when serving. It’s a hard float, and one of the hardest on the day (even from the older kids later on in the afternoon). Her defense is controlled and accurate, which completely makes sense coming from Carroll. Well-trained and purposeful, no movement is wasted, and she should be a nice addition to PHP’s 16s team this coming spring.
