I would be so curious to know how many jumps Karsyn took throughout the weekend. She was a go-to hitter for SMV 18-1, who could power through the ball while finding crafty ways to earn points. Her passing was arguably better than her offense. Karsyn read opposing servers and hitters with seeming ease and always seemed to be exactly where she needed to be a moment before the ball got there. She was an athlete who stood out time and time again throughout the tournament.

Winchell can take matters into her own hands and change the course of a match. When I saw her at the Class AA Showcase this fall she started taking monster swings from the back row and her whole team’s body language changed. Winchell chases down defensive touches and uses hang time to her advantage to terminate down the line.

Cannon Falls ‘ Karysn Winchell played well at the Twin Cities Challenge against Eastview and Pine River-Backus.
Winchell posted four kills, two service aces, six digs, eight serve receptions, and three set assists against the Lightning. She tallied 10 kills, four service aces, seven digs, and 22 serve receptions against the Tigers.
A 5-foot-6 junior outside hitter, Winchell jumps well on kill attempts, and she delivers the ball with excellent velocity. She pins the ball in tough spots on the opposite side of the court, which makes it challenging for opposing teams.

Winchell has fast reactions as a defender. When she attacks she is always searching for that open court by hitting a number of different shots. Winchell isn’t afraid to go after blockers hands or go after the deep line.

Winchell was definitely newer to the rankings and my radar. I took notice at the Class AA Showcase but she really made her presence known at the State Tournament this year. I wasn’t the only one who noticed her feisty and gritty style of play and her ability to work around some much larger blockers in front of her. Winchell earned a spot on the Class AA State All-Tournament Team and helped Cannon Falls to a Class AA State Championship title. I am looking forward to seeing Winchell compete with SMV 16-1 this year.

Winchell enters the rankings at an impressive #10 as a small but powerful player. She is a ferocious competitor and knows how to make the big plays. Winchell caught my attention with her ability to get the job done on the biggest stage for a high school athlete. She found unconventional ways to score using the block and when the set was off the net she was even more lethal.
Winchell could do the deep cross corner, fake the swing and tip just over the block, or speed up her swing and contact on top the ball to bury the ball. It’s no wonder she was not only a Class AA State Champion but also made the Class AA State All-Tournament Team. You will find her playing for SMV 16-1 and I can’t wait to see her live at the JVA MKE Jamboree, the Mizuno Showcase, and the ASICS Show Me Qualifier this club season.
2022 HS stats include 286 digs, 202 kills, and 32 aces.
